Hail to the King, Baby!  The Lads finally discuss the final film in Peter Jackson's adaptation of JRR Tolkiens' Lord of the Rings Trilogy, 2003's The Return of the King.  Frodo and Sam must battle a giant spider, escape Orc legions and cross the barren, inhospitable landscape of Mordor in order to finally reach Mount Doom and destroy the One Ring.  Meanwhile Gandalf must defend Minus Tirith, the stronghold of Gondor in order to clear the way for Aragorn, who is coming to claim his throne.  It's an amazing achievement in cinema that we spend quite a bit of time gushing about (spoiler alert: it's our favorite of the 3 films).

It's our first Listener Request episode!  Today the Lads talk about Babylon, Damien Chazelle's 2022 epic dramedy about Hollywood's transition from silent films to sound films in the late 1920's to early 1930's.  Featuring a large cast headlined by Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, this film is an exercise in excess in almost every aspect.  Combining breathtaking cinematography, superb acting and a wonderful score, Babylon is a visually stunning, albeit flawed, spectacle that we really enjoyed watching and discussing.  Thanks to Alex for suggesting it!  We would love to get more requests.  For anyone that's so inclined, please email us at weinterruptthismovie@gmail.com.

The Lads continue their journey into Middle Earth with the second part of The Lord of the Rings trilogy: 2002’s The Two Towers with a guest; our buddy Cameron. 
The Fellowship have split up.  Frodo and Sam continue toward Mordor, followed by Gollum (whose real name is revealed to be Sméagol). He leads them to the Black Gate but can they trust him to not stab them in the back?  Meanwhile, Merry and Pippin are able to escape from the Orcs, only to meet an ancient being who brings them to an Ent Moot. Aragorn and Co., after being assured by a resurrected Gandalf (Now The White) that Merry and Pippin are safe, head to Rohan to help King Theoden defeat an Orc army 10,000 strong. 
It’s another masterful film by Peter Jackson that we really enjoyed diving into.  Plus, Steve and Cameron go head to head in a trivia contest hosted by Tage. It’s a long episode this week but we podcasters don’t say anything unless it’s worth taking a very long time to say!

 The lads finally dig into arguably the greatest trilogy of all time, Peter Jackson's (originally written by J.R.R. Tolkien) The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. A hobbit named Frodo (Elijah Wood) is made aware of the existence of the One Ring. A council convenes and trusts the One Ring's fate to Frodo. After this, he and eight others set out on a quest to destroy the Ring and prevent the evil Sauron's return to power. We couldn't be more excited to start this series, which is a favorite of so many. Sit back and enjoy as we start the tail that has held up and will hold up for all time.

Grossing almost 1.5 billion dollars and the number one movie in the world in 2022, Top Gun: Maverick lived up to its hype and potential.

NYPD officer John McClane (Bruce Willis) is visiting his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia) in Los Angeles for the holidays when a group of terrorists seize control of her work Christmas party at Nakatomi Plaza.  McClane manages to escape and play hell on the terrorist's plans to steal millions of dollars in bear bonds. While there has been debate as to whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie; it is. Most everyone agrees that it did set the standard for action movies moving forward.

In 1862, Amsterdam Vallon (Leonardo DiCaprio) returns to the Five Points area of New York City seeking revenge against Bill the Butcher (Daniel Day-Lewis), his father's killer. With two incredible performances by two high-caliber actors, it was hard to decide who stole the show in this near masterpiece.

The lads talk about the 2019 science fiction film Ad Astra, directed by James Gray. Astronaut Roy McBride, played by Brad Pitt, undertakes a mission across an unforgiving solar system to uncover the truth about his missing father, played by Tommy Lee Jones, and his doomed expedition that now, 30 years later, threatens the universe. With beautiful cinematography and unforgiving dialog, Ad Astra checks many boxes for a classic sci-fi film.

The lads talk about Martin Scorsese's controversial 2013 movie, The Wolf of Wall Street. Overlaying themes of greed, addiction, and corruption that result from overindulgence in materialism. With so many deplorable acts and excess drug use, drinking felt like the right avenue to take in the making of this episode.

This week on We Interrupt This Movie, we’re revisiting Arrival (2016) — and yes, this is Take Two. Back in the early days of the podcast, we covered the film but later realized we didn’t quite do it justice. Considering it’s one of our favorite movies of all time, that never sat right with us, so we decided it was time to return to Denis Villeneuve’s beautiful, brain-melting sci-fi masterpiece with fresh eyes and a deeper conversation.  We dig into what makes Arrival so powerful—from its approach to language and time, to Jóhann Jóhannsson’s haunting score (bookended by Max Richter’s beautiful piece, On the Nature of Daylight) to Amy Adams’ incredible performance—and why this film has only grown in stature for us over the years.  Sometimes a movie deserves a second pass. This one absolutely did.
