Walking with Jesus: The Listening Habit

15 Minutes Monday to Friday

Hear. Walk. Become.

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." — John 10:27. Walking with Jesus is 15 minutes a day with the actual words of Christ, straight from the KJV. No commentary, no sermon — just Scripture, read aloud. Some days a single Gospel, some days all four woven together. 5 days a week, not 7 — a rhythm you can actually keep. His words stay with you. They come back when you need them. And before long, you're not just making time to hear His voice—you've made room for it. Bring Jesus into the hour you're already living…and let Him take it from there. Start today.

He tells the parable of a persistent widow who wears down an unjust judge simply by refusing to give up, and of a Pharisee and a tax collector who pray very differently in the temple, only one of them going home justified. Parents bring their infants for Jesus to touch, and when a rich young ruler asks what he still lacks for eternal life, he goes away sorrowful at the answer. Word then reaches Jesus that his friend Lazarus, in Bethany, is sick — and he waits two more days before going, arriving only after Lazarus has been in the tomb four days, to do the one thing no one there expected.

We are in a Luke-John Harmony. Jesus turns to his own disciples with the strange story of a dishonest manager who is commended for his shrewdness, then tells of a rich man in fine linen and a beggar named Lazarus at his gate — one comforted after death, one in torment, with a great gulf fixed between them. Months later, at the winter Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, the crowd surrounds him in Solomon's porch demanding a straight answer about whether he is the Christ. Continuing toward Jerusalem, he's warned that Herod wants to kill him, and he laments over the city that kills its prophets. At the house of a leading Pharisee on the Sabbath, he heals a man with dropsy, then tells a parable about a great banquet whose invited guests all make excuses, so the host fills his table with the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame instead. With so vast a crowd pressing in that people are trampling one another, Jesus turns first to his own disciples, warning them against hypocrisy and the fear of man, telling the parable of a rich fool who built bigger barns the same night his soul was required of him, and telling them not to worry about their lives, since the Father who feeds the ravens will not forget them. Back in Galilee, Jesus heals a woman who has suffered twelve years just by her touching the hem of his garment, and raises the daughter of a synagogue ruler named Jairus who had already died. Jesus then gives his twelve apostles power and authority and sends them out to preach and heal. When they return and report all they had done, Jesus withdraws privately with them — but the crowds follow on foot, and by evening some five thousand men, besides women and children, are gathered with nothing to eat. Both Luke and John record what happens next: five loaves and two fish, blessed, broken, and enough for everyone with baskets left over.

We are in a Luke-John Harmony. Traveling through cities and villages with the twelve and a group of women who support them, Jesus teaches in parables — a sower, a lamp under a basket — before a storm rises suddenly as he and the disciples cross the lake, and he silences it with a word, leaving them asking each other who this man really is.

We are in a Luke-John Harmony. He spends a full night in prayer on a mountain before choosing twelve of his disciples as apostles, then comes down to level ground and teaches a crowd gathered from all over Judea and the coast, blessing the poor and warning the comfortable, telling them to love their enemies and judge not, lest they be judged. Back in Capernaum, a Roman centurion sends elders to ask Jesus to heal a servant he loves — a man who understands authority well enough to know Jesus doesn't even need to come to the house. In one of the towns, Jesus cleanses a man full of leprosy with a touch, and in Capernaum, when four friends can't get a paralyzed man through the crowd, they lower him through the roof instead. The earth itself seems to answer as he gives up his spirit, and a soldier pierces his side to confirm he's already dead. Joseph of Arimathaea asks Pilate for the body and lays Jesus in a new tomb before nightfall, and the chief priests, remembering Jesus once said he would rise again, ask for a guard to be posted. As the first day of the week dawns, the women come to the tomb and find the stone already rolled away.

We are in a Matthew-John Harmony.

John 9:1–10:39; Matthew 11:20–30

Jesus heals a man who has been blind from birth, and the healing itself becomes more controversial than the blindness ever was, as the Pharisees interrogate the man, his parents, and finally throw him out of the synagogue. Jesus finds him afterward and tells the Pharisees who are listening that he is the good shepherd, who lays down his life for the sheep — a shepherd the sheep actually know, unlike a hired hand who runs at the first sign of danger. Jesus pronounces judgment on towns that saw his miracles and still wouldn't repent, then offers rest to anyone weary enough to come to him. Months later, at the winter Feast of Dedication, the crowd surrounds him in the temple and demands a straight answer.

We are in a Matthew-John Harmony. Today's episode covers: John 9:1–10:39; Matthew 11:20–30 ("once I was blind, now I see," the Good Shepherd, and the Feast of Dedication).

When religious leaders demand a miraculous sign, he refuses, and warns his disciples about a kind of leaven far more dangerous than yeast. At Caesarea Philippi, he asks the question this whole Gospel has been building toward — who do you say that I am? — and Peter's answer becomes the rock on which everything else stands. Six days later, on a mountain, Peter, James, and John watch Jesus transfigured before their eyes, talking with Moses and Elijah, before coming back down to a father whose son needed healing the other disciples couldn't provide.

We are in a Matthew-John Harmony.

Matthew 4:1–11; John 1:19–3:24

Fresh from his baptism, Jesus fasts forty days in the wilderness before the devil comes to tempt him. Meanwhile, John the Baptist tells the priests who he is not, then points out who Jesus is — the Lamb of God. Two of John's own followers leave to follow Jesus instead, and word spreads quickly through Galilee. At a wedding in Cana, Jesus turns water into wine, his first public sign, before traveling to Jerusalem for the Passover, where he drives the money-changers from the temple courts. That night, a Pharisee named Nicodemus comes to him in secret, and Jesus tells him that no one can see the kingdom of God without being born again.

We are in a Matthew-John Harmony. Today's episode covers: Matthew 4:1–11, John 1:19–3:24 (the Temptation, John the Baptist's testimony, the first disciples, the wedding at Cana, the cleansing of the temple, and Nicodemus).

Matthew then traces Jesus' ancestry through forty-two generations, from Abraham through King David, before an angel appears to Joseph in a dream to explain Mary's unexpected pregnancy. Wise men from the East follow a star to Bethlehem, prompting Herod's murderous rage and a hurried flight to Egypt.

Mark 10:1–31; John 11:1–57

In Perea, Jesus is tested on divorce, blesses the children brought to him despite his disciples' objections, and watches a rich young man walk away sorrowful rather than sell everything he owns. Then word arrives that Lazarus, a dear friend in Bethany, is deathly ill. Jesus waits two full days before setting out — and by the time he arrives, Lazarus has been in the tomb four days already. Martha meets him on the road with grief and faith tangled together, Mary falls at his feet in tears, and Jesus himself weeps. Then, standing before a sealed tomb, he calls a dead man by name — and Lazarus walks out, still wrapped in his grave clothes.

We are in a Mark-John Harmony. Today's episode covers: Mark 10:1–31, John 11:1–57 (teaching on divorce, blessing the children, the rich young man, and the raising of Lazarus).

Jesus finds him afterward, alone, and gives him something greater than sight. From there, Jesus paints a picture of a shepherd who calls his sheep by name, who lays down his life for them rather than fleeing like a hired hand, and who has other sheep not yet gathered into the fold. Months later, at the Feast of Dedication, the same argument resurfaces — is he the Christ, or is he blaspheming? — and Jesus makes one of the clearest claims of his ministry: he and the Father are one.

We are in a Mark-John Harmony. Today's episode covers: John 9:1–42, John 10:1–42 (the healing of the man born blind, his interrogation and expulsion from the synagogue, the Good Shepherd discourse, and the Feast of Dedication).

Revelation 3:20 tells us that Jesus stands at the door and knocks. There are many ways to let Him in, but too often we don't make consistent time for the most important voice in Scripture. That's where Walking with Jesus comes in — it isn't deep Bible study, and it isn't preaching. It delivers real nearness to Christ, heard in His own words, day after day, until it stops feeling like a discipline and starts feeling like who you are. Here's how: fifteen minutes a day, five days a week, straight from the beautiful King James Version. The daily episodes stay close to His own words — no commentary standing between you and Christ, just a little context to help you follow along. Scroll to the oldest episode in this feed, press play, and start your walk with Jesus today.
