Forgiveness is often confused with excusing what happened, forgetting it, reconciling with someone who hurt you, or simply deciding to "let it go." But what if those ideas obscure something much more powerful?

In this episode, I explore forgiveness through its older meaning of untying, releasing, and becoming unbound. I examine the difference between anger and resentment, why forgiveness doesn't require reconciliation or lowered boundaries, and how resentment can quietly keep us connected to the very people and experiences we want to escape.

Along the way, we'll look at a surprisingly common cycle of resentment, guilt, appeasement, and temporary relief—and how genuine forgiveness can restore the clarity to remember without reliving, set boundaries without hatred, and act without remaining emotionally chained to what happened.

Forgiveness isn't about letting them off the hook. It's about getting yourself off theirs—and learning not to bite the hook in the first place.

Watch the video edition

This episode is also available on YouTube, with additional visuals and illustrations:

https://youtu.be/30CKpMp7mcQ

------

🌐 jackvanlandingham.com

🎵 OPENING THEME: "Acrobatic" by Jack van Landingham

▶️ Full song + video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNP3f92qOH0

🟢 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/5NonmGkDYrOXSuQVLGh4PC?si=viLfGDqwSU-8qvc3Dxd_Kg

🍎 Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/album/acrobatic-single/1835345103

------

© 2026 Jack van Landingham.
