Hi, I’m Alma Nurul Salma, I’m majoring in Informatics at UII.

So today, i’m gonna talk about the relationship between islam and technology.

As I have learned in islamic religious education courses, one of the characteristics of islam is syumuhiyah, it means a perfect religion or syamil, which reaches peoples wherever and whenever they are.

In this day, if we talk about the words “reaching anywhere and anytime”, one of the things that will come to our mind is various types of technological media. Starting from the technological devices itself. There are various social media platforms that are currently popular among people, for example like Tiktok, Instagram, Youtube, Facebook, etc. all of these platforms have their own characteristics and uniqueness, also they are programmed to make platform users feel comfortable exploring the information displayed by the platform. Various conveniences are presented quickly, as well as accuracy and precision that is quite precise with what has become our favorite content recently. The very fast dissemination of information keeps people up to date with the latest information.

However, we need to remember that not all of the information or content on social media platforms has positive value. Much of the content also has negative values and damages people’s moral and religious values. It is very unfortunate that some contents don't have any essence in their delivery, both verbally and non-verbally. We are as social media users, need more content with positive values, such as moral and spiritual values, one of the examples is dakwah.

By utilizing information and technology, we can gain benefits in developing Islamic dakwah. For example :

• First, dakwah no longer depends on time and place. Because we all already have technology that makes it possible to access content 24 hours non-stop anywhere very easily, because so many people in the world have technological devices, such as phones or laptops.
• Second, dakwah can have a very broad scope. With various social media platforms connecting various levels of society throughout the world, the dissemination of information will also reach a very large scale, namely a world scale.
• Third, the very fast distribution of information about dakwah. With the rapid development of technology from time to time, there have also been many technological advances in various fields, one of which is the effectiveness of the time when users want to access information on a platform. In less than 1 second, what you’ve been search for in the search box will appear. Very fast right ?
• Fourth, there are various ways to convey dakwah material. Via audio, video, of a combination of that both. Even nowadays, some platforms provide content or information in 3D form.

1. Nowadays, social media can also be a charity field for anyone who makes good use of it. For example, we create dakwah content, then many people watch our dakwah content, they share our content with the people around them, then all of them apply the positive things we convey in their lives, it can be a charity for us too. Or we can say it in a cooler word as an investment.
