In January 1992, the small town of Madison, Indiana, was rocked by a crime so brutal it garnered international headlines. Shanda Sharer, a vibrant 12-year-old girl, became the target of a senseless and horrific plot fueled by teenage jealousy and obsession.

• The Conflict: The tragedy stemmed from a perceived romantic rivalry involving 16-year-old Melinda Loveless, who targeted Shanda over a mutual friendship with another girl.
• The Crime: On the night of January 10, Shanda was lured from her home, kidnapped, and subjected to hours of torture by four teenage girls: Melinda Loveless, Laurie Tackett, Hope Rippey, and Toni Lawrence.
