In Part 2 of our sit-down with Darwin Santana (El Mundo de Darwin), we pull back the curtain on one of the darkest, most closely guarded realities of living under the Cuban regime: mandatory military service and the prison system.

Drafted as a teenager without a choice or even knowing where he was being taken, Darwin was assigned to guard one of Cuba’s notorious prisons. In this candid, eye-opening conversation, he shares what really happens behind the barbed wire—and the psychological toll it takes on young recruits.

In this episode, we discuss: • Mandatory Conscription: How young men are rounded up, loaded onto buses with no destination disclosed, and forced into service without pay. • Guard Duty at the Prison: Darwin’s firsthand experience on watch, the brutal 6x6 shifts with zero days off, and the reality of life outside and inside the cell blocks. • The Untold Toll: The intense mental pressure, despair, and why so many families fear the draft. • Control & Fear: How the regime uses compulsory service to break individuality and enforce compliance from a young age.
