This week’s episode with our founder April Austin looks at what the data actually says about your chances of having a VBAC.

We unpack the latest findings from the National Maternity and Perinatal Audit (NMPA 2025), to make sense of what that 14.2% VBAC rate really means in practice.

These numbers are useful, but they don’t tell the whole story. They reflect a system, not a person. Your circumstances, your body, your care, your support all matter so much more than population data.

In this episode, April explores what that national figure represents, how the VBAC rate has changed over time, and what we can take from it without getting lost in percentages. She also shares a few simple, evidence based ways to tilt the odds in your favour, including:

Debriefing your previous birth

Finding continuity of care

Building your support network and allies

Protecting your physiology

Resources mentioned:

📊 National Maternity and Perinatal Audit (NMPA 2025 – covers 2023 births):https://maternityaudit.org.uk/pages/reports

🩺 RCOG: Birth After Previous Caesarean Birth (Green-top Guideline No. 45, 2015)https://www.rcog.org.uk/guidance/browse-all-guidance/green-top-guidelines/birth-after-previous-caesarean-birth-green-top-guideline-no-45/

📘 NICE Caesarean Birth Guideline (NG192, 2021):https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng192

Follow The VBAC Hub:Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/thevbachubTikTok – https://www.tiktok.com/@thevbachub

Support our Crowdfunder 💜We’ve launched a Crowdfunder to help get The VBAC Hub CIC off the ground, creating accessible, evidence-based, trauma-informed resources for people planning birth after caesarean.

Your donations go directly towards:– Developing free VBAC information resources– Building our community platform– Funding our first education and support pilots

Support or share here:https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/support-the-vbac-hub-cic-with-start-up-costs-a-no
