“It began as an innocent friendship—at least I thought so. I admired her: a strong kind, beautiful woman. I didn’t think of it as sexual; I just wanted closeness, to be wanted. My desires deepened, and the emotional boundaries blurred. I thought about her constantly, craved her attention, and was jealous when others were close to her. One day, a casual touch from her felt electrifying— and terrifying. What was this feeling? Was I physically attracted to her? It went no further physically, and I put some space between us, but I felt hooked . . . entangled emotionally in something unhealthy and dangerous. -A. C. (former women’s discipleship group member)”

Today’s episode from Ellen Mary Dykas walks us through her experience of ministering to countless women who have wrestled with unhealthy and sinful same-sex attachments. She helpfully lays out a wide range of heart postures and behaviors that indicate when attachment has veered into sinful territory. <itunes:title>Attraction and Orientation: Defining Our Terms by Caitlin McCaffrey</itunes:title>

In the dialogue on gay desire in the broader church, two terms rise to the surface: attraction and orientation. Lack of definition has caused much confusion and debate among God’s people. The stakes are high, because gospel clarity is lost or found for sexual strugglers based on how we define these terms as pastors, counselors, and friends. This is a gospel discipleship issue for the church today; therefore, precision and compassion are paramount.

On today’s episode, Caitlin McCaffrey dives deep into the importance of language. If the words we use to discuss these issues are not rooted in God’s Word, then we are building on a faulty foundation that will inevitably fail. She carefully walks us through how to think about two common, yet deeply misunderstood words.

Read along with today’s episode: https://harvestusa.org/attraction-and-orientation-defining-our-terms/

📣 Giveaway! 📣

During the month of February, we’re giving away five copies of Sex in a Broken World: How Christ Redeems What Sin Distorts by Paul David Tripp.

Click here to enter for a chance to win this excellent title: https://gleam.io/MaynL/sex-in-a-broken-world-giveaway

Entries close on February 28.

Is it possible for someone who isn’t attracted to the opposite sex to have a truly fulfilling, beautiful, biblical marriage? If we’re honest, when we think of our brothers and sisters who battle against exclusive same-sex attraction, we often assume that marriage simply isn’t an option for them. We think they should probably just accept that God wants them to remain celibate. After all, “How can you marry someone you’re not attracted to?”

But this reveals a very shallow understanding of attraction, marriage, and God’s work in the lives of his children.

Today’s episode by Mark Sanders teaches us that attraction is much deeper than instinctual sexual desire and what makes for a truly beautiful marriage is not butterflies in your stomach, but a lifelong commitment to sacrificial love. Love that is only made possible through the liberty of first being loved by Christ.

Click here to read along with today’s episode: https://harvestusa.org/same-sex-attraction-and-a-beautiful-marriage/

As human beings, we’re wired to make sacrifices in the present in the hope of attaining some good in the future. We embrace the pain of diets and exercise now, hoping to achieve long term health down the road. Similarly, if you’re struggling with porn, the promise that Christ is coming again should be a powerful motivation to quit porn.

On today’s episode, Mark Sanders shares five ways the promise of Christ’s return should motivate our present obedience.

Click here to read along with today’s episode: https://harvestusa.org/dont-look-at-porn-because-jesus-is-coming-back/

“In the months following that first confession of my same-sex desires, with help from Jesus, I began the slow and messy process of disentangling those desires from the man he created me to be. When I made my desires and my self a package deal, I couldn’t fight one without feeling like I was fighting the other. Repenting of my same-sex desires felt like I was repenting of being emotional, or creative, or tall. But as I’m learning how to distinguish my sin from my self, the freedom that I’m finding has been truly transformational.” - Stephen Moss

Today’s episode from Stephen Moss shares his story of disentangling his self-conception from his battles with same-sex desires. He chronicles his journey from an identity based on stereotypes and tribalism to one of freedom in Christ as he learned who he truly is—a unique image bearer of God and a new-creation man, united to Christ.

Click here to read along with today’s episode: https://harvestusa.org/disentangling-my-self-from-same-sex-desires/

For many who pursue sexual integrity in thought and life, it can often seem like three steps forward, one step backward, on repeat. But God meets us in the struggle.

In 40 years of ministry at Harvest USA, founder John Freeman has observed God’s steady faithfulness. In today’s episode, he shares eight lessons he’s learned over four decades of ministry to those in turmoil and sin regarding gender and sexuality.

We’re all sexually broken to some degree and in some sense.

Many of Satan’s schemes against us are directed at gender and sexuality.

The sexually broken are close to God’s heart.

People don’t set out to get enslaved by sexual sin.

The church and parents must intentionally lead in areas of gender and sexuality.

We were never meant to handle sex and sexuality on our own.

It’s not over ‘til it’s over.

Whatever pit we find ourselves in, Jesus is deeper still.

Click here to read the original article on our website.

A picture he always looks at when we’ve been behaving at our worst - when we’ve really blown it.

There are few men who don’t suffer from mug shot theology, especially when it comes to their deep and unrelenting sexual temptations, struggles, and sin. It just seems to come with the territory.

In today’s episode Harvest USA founder John Freeman shows us that when we trade a mug shot theology for a gospel theology…everything changes.

Click here to read the original article on our website.

You cried out to God, begged for strength, and for a while, you tasted freedom. But temptation came and, in a moment, it all fell apart. Once again, you gave in. You wonder, “Does God still care? Am I a lost cause?” And with a sigh, you decide, “Well, God’s patience must have been exhausted.”

In today’s episode, Yohan Huh Prudente points us to the wonderful forbearance of God by putting on display the mercy and patience of Christ as he persevered in his earthly ministry, obeyed even amidst the agonizing death on the cross, and ascended to become our eternal high priest.

Click here to read the original article.

One of the sentences we often hear at Harvest USA is, “I’m really messed up—am I truly saved?” It usually accompanies a cry of despair amid the destructive and painful reality of sexual sins.

The anguish this question expresses is familiar to many when life-dominating sexual sins take hold. The sorrowful assumption that there is no way out—and therefore no salvation—when entangled with sexual sins is understandable, because our human hearts are not inclined to see the light.

Yet there is hope. In today’s episode Yohan Huh Prudente addresses the anxiety we feel about our salvation by calling us to gaze long and hard at Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life for struggling sinners.

Click here to read today’s article.

What our sin provides often feels like life to us; through it we experience comfort and pleasure. We feel loved, significant, in control.

What happens when we give those things up? Does Jesus provide the comfort and pleasure sin once supplied? Can God’s comfort and deliverance really compare with sin’s attractions?

In today’s episode, Women’s Ministry Director Caitlin McCaffrey shows us how God’s comfort differs from the fleeting and false comfort that sin provides.

Should Christians attend a same-sex wedding?

Every generation of the church faces unique challenges in applying scriptural principles to modern questions that the Bible doesn’t directly address. Perhaps one of the most difficult issues of our day is how to respond to an invitation to a same-sex wedding.

More and more Christians are facing this dilemma in their family, workplace, or neighborhood. On the one hand, we want to guard against any miscommunication that we are endorsing what God clearly says is sin. But we are also concerned about a different kind of miscommunication—that we hate the people involved and want nothing to do with them. We want to maintain relationships for gospel influence, but not at the expense of condoning sin.

In today’s episode, Harvest USA President Mark Sanders humbly offers four reasons why Christians should not attend a same-sex wedding.

You can read the entire article on our website.

When sexual infidelity crashes into a marriage, hurting wives need the gospel too. Something is off when a repentant or unrepentant husband receives 90% of the pastoral energy, care, and attention, while a devastated, often traumatized wife is left on her own to navigate world-rocking circumstances.

In today’s episode, Ellen Mary Dykas shares a case study that illustrates the challenge betrayed wives face as the church responds to her husband’s sexual sin. She then offers several ways pastors can live out the gospel with hurting wives without sacrificing the worthy time and energy that husbands need in their battle against sexual sin.

Is your heart breaking over the revelation of your husband’s sexual sin?
