By 2040, Global Warming of Earth's atmosphere has been declared irreversible with current technology. Although the first sustained and contained nuclear fusion reaction was achieved in 2035 and the first power plant was built in 2042, fossil fuel emissions continue to climb. in 2044, scientists developed antimatter in Earth orbit, which led to the successful development of and interstellar warp drive in 2049. This enabled the launch of an inter-stellar probe in 2055 to a habitable planet identified in another star system. Ross 128b, an ocean planet, promised a new home for humanity.
