This podcast is for all the Dominicans who have been born outside of the island so that we can better understand our history, our culture and who we are as a people.

In this episode 7, I concentrated on the different indigenous people who were directly involved in what became known as the Spanish Invasion of the West Indies. Each person in this series was real. They lived and breathed and died during this time period, and because of their actions, millions of people worldwide exist today. We all know about the violence and the atrocities that occurred during this time, but I personally had heard of only 5 of all those who are part of my series.

The rest were buried beneath indifference and the hope that time would erase all trace of them. I dug as deep as I could within my circumstances, and I am very proud of the facts I was able to gather, even though there are still thousands of documents in the Archives of the Indies in Spain that STILL has not been examined. A lot of people told me to not waste my time because there wasn't a lot of information on them, that they had disappeared too quickly that there was no documentation left behind about how they lived and who they were. But I was able to gather hours upon hours of information and probably more depending on how I get through these episodes. So, for now: Episode 7 || The Hidden Legacy || The Forgotten Taino and Taina Warriors of 1492-1540
