Leviticus 20 opens with the most severe language in all of Leviticus—"I myself will set my face against that man." It does not soften what it means to violate holiness. Sixteen times in one chapter, God says the same thing: I am the LORD. After every law about leaving food for the poor. After the command to pay workers before sundown.
