The BEST-COST project is an EU-funded research project working to improve methodologies to better understand the socioeconomic cost of environmental stressors, focusing on air and noise pollution. The project aims to support improved policies and practices that reduce the burden of disease, and create living and working environments that are more health-promoting, equitable and sustainable.

EuroHealthNet sits down with different researchers from BEST-COST to learn more about their process in working on these BEST-COST research methods and tools – to break down the scientific process and ask them what the conclusions mean for policymaking.

EuroHealthNet sat with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute to learn more about how the tool works, and how it can be used in research of environmental stressors beyond air and noise pollution.

BEST-COST is developing new research methodologies to understand the socioeconomic impacts of air and noise pollution. Researchers from Sciensano and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health developed a European-level Multiple Deprivation Index to measure how socioeconomic inequalities contribute to the health burden of environmental stressors.

By closing the gaps in understanding, we can help policymakers take targeted action to reduce pollution levels and inequalities across Europe.
