Holistic Healing from Grief and Trauma: Steps To End Your Emotional Pain and Suffering

Ashley Mielke is the Founder and CEO of The Grief and Trauma Healing Centre in Edmonton, a counselling service staffed by nearly two dozen therapists and registered psychologists who themselves have all endured grief and loss.

They believe in a holistic approach to healing, and offer talk therapy, the Grief Recovery Method, and body-based approaches such as (the miraculous) Eye Movement and Desensitization therapy (EMDR). Ashley and her team are in the process of opening their second location while offering in-person and online services, Alberta-wide, to all demographics.

Ashley’s journey to owning and operating this business began with the devastating loss of her father after his relapse into drug and alcohol addiction and eventual suicide in 2010. (Be warned that Ashley shares this story in graphic detail.) After completing the Grief Recovery Method in 2013, Ashley “felt called” to begin the Grief and Trauma Healing Centre and found her purpose in serving others.

Initial sessions for the album took place in January 2001 and featured numerous well-known musicians including Jim and Luther Dickinson, Levon Helm, David Hood and Spooner Oldham. The recording was cancelled after three days and Mike was sent on a 20-year personal odyssey before finally releasing the album.

Will Cardinal-Mawer is a community support worker at the Bissell Centre in Edmonton and an outspoken advocate for Indigenous rights in Canada. He joined Patrick at ᐄᓃᐤ (ÎNÎW) River Lot 11∞ Indigenous Art Park on June 15, 2021 to share insight on the Indigenous experience in Canada, historical perspectives on colonialism in Canada, and some of his life story among other topics.

UPDATE: Both men accused in the deaths of Maurice and Jacob were found guilty. Roger Bilodeau was sentenced to 10 years in prison (minus 4.5 years for time served) for two counts of manslaughter. His son Anthony will be sentenced in November 2022 for one count of manslaughter and one count of second-degree murder.

Kristine Archibald is the Executive Director of the River Valley Alliance and Makennah Walker is their Communications and Marketing Specialist.

Their flagship project is the RVA Trail: the complete, unbroken connectivity of the river valley corridor from Devon to Ft. Saskatchewan. This 100km stretch will be the largest metropolitan park in the world.

The R.V.A. represents the six "shareholder municipalities" of Devon, Parkland County, Edmonton, Strathcona County, Sturgeon County, and Ft. Saskatchewan that border the North Saskatchewan River valley in the Edmonton region.

The R.V.A. lobby for funding for projects that improve connectivity of and access to the river valley. As well, they advocate for educated and sustainable use.
