On the lastest episode of Mormon Book Reviews, the book "Method Infinite: Freemasonry and The Mormon Restoration" by Cheryl Bruno, Joe Steve Swick, and Nicholas Literski is previewed! I was sent a preview copy of the book by it's publisher Greg Kofford Books. I have been able to read parts of it and the book is groundbreaking and awesome! After discussing the contents of it with my producer Anthony Virella (who did an awesome job in the post production of this video) we decided to produce a special spoiler free sneak preview of the publication. This will be the start of my Mormonism & Masonry Summer series. In the Mormon period the book covers Thomas Sharp, the participants who killed Joseph Smith, the sham trial of the defendants, the bravery of Eliza Graham to testify at the trial and much more. The first one is the critically acclaimed "The Glass Looker: Collected Tales of Joseph Smith" illustrated and written by Mark Elwood. It is a fantasticlly illustrated and written account about the folklore and mythology of Joseph's treasure digging days. Many members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have probably encountered the infamous Christian Fundamentalist Chick Tracts, in particular the one called "The Visitors". That tract has been read by millions of Christians and ,for many, it is their only source of information about the Church and the Restoration. The author is largely unknown in the English speaking world, but he has a following in Germany where he has lived for decades. Eric is a great story teller both as a writer and a speaker (keep an eye out for the release of my interview of him). While Eric ultimately left the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he is by no means anti-Mormon. It is an interesting personal journey of faith that he takes, and he shows that you can leave faith but not hate it as well. My original intent was for the channel to be more secular in nature, but after speaking with Patrick I recognized immediately that the spiritual was going to be part of the channel as well. I really appreciate Patrick for what he is trying to do. He wants to bring unity to the Restoration, and I think we Evangelicals should pay attention to his work.

I recently got to appear on Robert's channel and he was gracious enough to allow me to post it on my channel. Watch as we discuss this very interesting edition given to me by my friend David Hall. Here is the description Robert wrote about the episode: "What would it take to replicate the 1830 Book of Mormon, by hand? This review goes through all the details and background of the letterpress replica that was made in 2007. It's a beautiful replica and closest to the original 1830 Edition as a modern day printing can get."

Jonathan Neville Answers His Critics & Previews Future Projects

In this interview, I asked Jonathan to respond to some of his critics, particularly his LDS critics who published articles in the Interpreter earlier this year. Jonathan welcomes criticism because he advocates consideration of "multiple working hypotheses" based on established facts. But he objects to "gatekeeping" intellectuals that ban or censor interpretations they don't agree with--especially when they ban alternative faithful interpretations. He hopes the exchange in the Interpreter will lead to a more inclusive approach on the part of the Interpreter editors, as well as the gatekeepers at FAIRLDS and Book of Mormon Central. During the interview, Jonathan explains that his LDS critics don't seem to realize he is not writing only for LDS audiences so he uses citations to a variety of sources, so long as they are factual. And he looks forward to ongoing conversations with Mormon Book Reviews, the "Switzerland" of the Restoration.

Some researchers have concluded that the wine was spiked in the 1st century Christian church. This would lead to visions of a resurrected Christ and other spiritual manifestations. History communicator & independent researcher Bryce Blankenagel has recently co-authored a paper with Brian Kassenbrock, published by the John Whitmer Historical Association Journal, that advocates a similar hypothesis for the early days of Mormonism. Bryce joins Evangelical Steven Pynakker in a conversation about the use of plants and fungi that were used commonly as ingredients in 19th century folk medicine. Emma Smith's use of them is explored as well. The idea that substances with psychoactive properties were used in the early church services of the Restoration is also explored. Steven also pushes back a little on this hypothesis and asks if Bryce, an atheist, if he has ever had an experience that gave him pause about the possiblity of the existence of the supernatural. For the first time on a podcast, scholar of Mormonism Cristina Rosetti discusses her Pentecostal background here on Mormon Book Reviews! Cristina shares her experience of converting to the Foursquare Church as a teenager. For a while she wanted to become the next Aimee Semple McPherson, the female founder of the denomination. Cristina recounts the fascinating history of McPherson and the church. She also describes witnessing speaking in tongues, healings, and an exorcism! We then discuss her "Born Again" conversion to the Catholic Faith. We then talk about how she got interested in Mormon Fundamentalism via her study of 19th Century communitarian religious groups. This led her to specialize in the Study of the History and Lived Experience of Mormon Fundamentalism. What makes Cristina's approach so unique is rather than focus on Polygamy, she became enamored with the doctrines of Fundamentalism. Especially Adam/God. Next week she and Moroni Lopez Jessop will be giving a special presentation at Sunstone, it is previewed here. What Really Happened at Roswell? w/Roger Launius

Today is regarded as the anniversary of the crash at Roswell. Was it an alien craft? A weather balloon? Or something else? On a very special episode of Mormon Book Reviews and the Steven Pynakker Channel, I am excited to have back on Roger Launius former Chief Historian of NASA and Senior Curator of the Air & Space Museum at the Smithsonian. Roger discusses how every year, before he retired, he would give a lecture at the Air & Space Museum about how it is a myth that an alien craft crashed in Roswell in the summer of 1947. He presents a slide show where he gives evidence that the main reason there was a "cover up" at Roswell had more to do with the Cold War than anything otherworldly. After the presentation Steven Pynakker was able to ask Roger a series of questions about the events at Roswell that he had himself as well as ones provided to him by members of a UFO sub-Reddit. It was really cool to have Roger on and at the end he was able to tie in Mormonism to the Space Program!

On a very special episode of Mormon Book Reviews, Mormon Scholar and Freemason Jason Smith comes on the program to discuss his research regarding the influence of Masonry on the formation of Mormonism. In this fascinating coversation he discusses how the "Morgan Affair" played a major role in the development of the Book of Mormon. The idea that Masonic Temple Rites were well known at this time and they may have been referenced in the lost 116 pages is also explored. Jason shows how Masonry played a major role during the Kirtland period as well, especially in the formation of temple rituals and the Book of Abraham. The Nauvoo period is then discussed and it is speculated that Joseph's entanglements with Masonry may have played a role in his martydom. We talk about the book "Method Infinite: Freemasonry and the Mormon Restoration" written by Cheryl Bruno, Joe Steve Swick III, Nick Literski. Jason wrote a review of it for the September issue of the John Whitmore Historical Association's Journal and he previews it here. We then talk a little about Jason's background. He was originally a staunch anti-Mason as a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. His father was a Freemason and Jason talks about how much it met that he become a "Brother" to his father before his passing. The discussion then turns to his work regarding the legacy of Pauline Hancock, the female founder of a Restorationist church. Lindsay Hansen Park's Take on Under the Banner of Heaven! The Aftershow

On the latest Under the Banner of Heaven Aftershow we are excited to have on Lindsay Hansen Park! She worked as a consultant for the Under the Banner of Heaven series and she is the Executive Director of Sunstone. On a very special "behind the scenes" episode Lindsay details how she got involved in the project, the role she played in the temple scene, and interacting with Andrew Garfield along with the cast and crew! Lindsay then shares with Rebecca Bibliotheca and Steven Pynakker her overall thoughts about the series. She acknowledges and understands some of the criticisms directed toward the program, but she also shares some "off the record" information that shows how much UTBoH got right. We then discuss "Revelation", the 6th episode of the series. This is probably the best episode so far and it was a real delight to get Lindsay's take. To cap off our program Lindsay gives a sneak peek of this year's Sunstone Summer Symposium "Many Mansions". Steven is then officially appointed to be the umpire for the annual kick ball tournament between the Ex-Mo's and the Fundamentalists! This has been a really enjoyable time having these converstions about the show. Next week I'll be at the Mormon History Association Conference so there may be a slight delay in taping for the finale. On the latest episode of Mormon Book Reviews I am excited to welcome on religious studies sociologist, Allison Biggers. This is the first time Allison has ever publicly shared her journey. Raised as a Protestant in Tennessee, she encountered Mormonism at a young age through a friend. From there her interest grew and she has since been studying the LDS Church’s history, doctrines, policies and procedures for decades now. Allison lived in Nashville and worked in country music radio for many years. She even was a radio DJ as a teenager. Aside from her studying Mormonism, she has extensively studied Holiness Pentecostal snake handlers in the Appalachia region and was acknowledged in the book, “In the House of the Serpent Handler” by Julia Duin. She’s got some incredible stories from her life thus far, one including Alice Cooper. She and her husband moved to Utah in 2019 with the sole purpose of establishing unconditional friendships with those around them. We talk Utah Christian culture and those who have made a lasting impact on her life and her personal ministry of simply “listening.”

He talks about how many evangelicals had an impact on him including Billy Graham and Hal Lindsay, author of "The Late Great Planet Earth". The conversation then turns to an encounter he had with an angel shortly after being baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Denver, for the first time publicly, shares some new details of what it is like to have encounters with Jesus. I think many will find these revelations very eye-opening. We then discuss the nature of his movement and whether it is a church or not. The Last Days, building a Temple, Masonry and Mormonism, and how the monarch butterfly is an allegory of Christ are contemplated. At the very end Denver shares why he decided to come on this program and give the details of his experiences with the supernatural. He gives a very kind compliment to the show and to me. It was very touching and I appreciate Denver for coming on.

My good friend Anthropologist Dr. Thomas Murphy returns to Mormon Book Reviews to discuss some stories he's never told publicly about growing up in an abusive LDS household. When the new limited Hulu series "Under the Banner of Heaven" was released, it caused Thomas to reflect on his childhood. There are many similar events that take place in the book and series that he experienced as well. This has to be one of the most powerful interviews I've ever been a part of. We talk about some topics that some sensitive viewers should be aware of. Domestic violence, beatings, murder, religious extremism, temple trauma, and the coercive nature of toxic masculinity and patriarchy. Do high demand religions cause such behavior? As an Evangelical I can say that I have seen and experienced some of these things as well. This can be a cautionary tale for those both in and out of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On the latest episode of Mormon Book Reviews, I am excited to introduce a new Evangelical YouTuber Pastor Jeff McCullough! Jeff just recently started a channel called "Hello Saints". It is a channel geared toward fostering dialogue between Evangalicals and the Restoration. Jeff reached out to me via a recommendation by John Dehlin. After a couple of conversations we both realized we shared very similar views and approaches regarding the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Restoration in general. Jeff didn't know anything about Mormonism when he visited Utah a couple of years ago. That trip ended up "planting a seed" in him that changed the trajectory of his life. In this fascinating conversation we discuss Jeff's faith background, having a major faith crisis, becoming a pastor, experiencing spritual abuse, learning about Mormonism, and what made him want to start his channel. Ancient Engraved Plates Found and Translated in England? New Scripture? w/Matthew Gill

On the latest episode of Mormon Book Reviews, Matthew Gill of the Restored Branch of Jesus Christ discusses his discovery and translation, using the Urim and Thummim, of two sets of ancient engraved metal plates. This would become known as the "Book of Jeraneck", the written history of the builders of Stonehenge. Mathew was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He tells of his faith journey and having many angelic visitations, including one from the Angel Moroni at the age of 12! Moroni gave Matthew the opporutunity to handle and leaf through the plates that Joseph Smith used to translate the Book of Mormon. This is part 1 of my interview with him.

Jonathan describes how he acquired them. This serves as a catalyst to discuss the original plates and how a plausible argument can be made of their ancient origin within a Restorationist context. Joseph Smith claimed to have partially translated them. Neville discusses why this is not a problem, even if they were fake. Up until 1980 it was widely thought by the Church that they were authentic, this is no longer the case. Jonathan puts forth a hypothosis that is original and thought provoking. Perhaps it is time to reopen the case!

On the latest episode of Mormon Book Reviews Steven Pynakker interviews one of the most important scholars of Mormonism, Brent Metcalfe. In this fascinating conversation Brent details that while working for Church security he was working on scholarly endeavors that he hoped would help contribute to apologitic defenses of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All was going well until he encountered a particular book in the Church History library. When it was discovered that he was researching this book, it was reported to Mark E. Peterson. Shortlty thereafter Brent was fired from his job. This lead him down a path that would eventually lead to his excommunication from the Church. In this engaging conversation we discuss his early interactions with Jerald and Sandra Tanner, where in a newsletter they described Brent as the next Hugh Nibley! The conversation includes his fathers invovement in selecting Temple sites, his research history of the Book of Mormon, discoverying a photograph that was thought to be Charles Anthon but was misidentified, indentifying the unkown third scribe of the Book of Mormon, and his work on the Caracters Document. In the conclusion we discuss the legacy of Curt Bench and Brent's involvement in the docuseries "Murder Among the Mormons". Joseph Smith's Handwritten Virtue Letter Once Owned by Mark Hofmann! w/Brent Ashworth

On the latest "Show & Tell" with Brent Ashworth on Mormon Book Reviews, a very unique handwritten letter by Joseph Smith is discussed. When Joseph Smith was returning from his unsuccessful trip to Washington DC, where he tried to convince Martin Van Buren to intervene on behalf of the Saints, he made a stop in Philadelphia. There he made an address in a synagogue and it lead to many baptisms and the church began to grow in the city. While staying as a guest at a home, he signed a vistors log and wrote a short statement about virtue and a blessing to the household for letting him and his company stay there. This is the only known fully handwritten item by Joseph that is in private hands. Brent also details his twelve year effort to finally acquire this special document, and he describes how he ended up buying it from Mark Hofmann! I want to thank Brent for coming on and sharing this item with me and my audience.

Breaking News! Oldest Book of Mormon Artwork Identified? w/Devan Jensen

On the latest Mormon Book Reviews, a recently rediscovered 22-foot painted panorama by C. C. A. Christensen is discussed with Devan Jensen, the executive editor at the BYU Religious Studies Center. Devan told me how Steven Olsen at the Church History Department rediscovered and acquired a rare, early panorama painted by C. C. A. Christensen that was used to proselytize Native Americans in Utah. Devan then told me how he got involved with the project and that the Church History Museum team identified the date of 1871 on the back of canvas. I mentioned to him that the earliest extant artwork of a Book of Mormon scene was identified by my friend Dr. Chris Thomas in his book "A Pentecostal Reads the Book of Mormon." In his book he described a painting of David Hyrum Smith that was dated to around 1874 according to Lachlan MacKay, Community of Christ historian and apostle. It was very exciting that I was able to identify an existing piece that is even older! In this episode we discuss the fascinating story of Christensen and his art. We then discuss each image of the panorama. The imagery is very striking for LDS art because it contains partial nudity and an early crucifixion scene. I then discuss the importance of the image of the cross in the Christian world, as well as the history of the use of the cross in the 19th and 20th Century Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The role of David O. McKay and his actions to modernize the Church, emulate 1950s Protestantism, and moving the Church away from Roman Catholic imagery like the cross is also discussed. The work "Banishing the Cross: The Emergence of a Mormon Taboo" by Michael Reed is referenced as well. This panorama was used as a proselytizing tool to convert the local Native American peoples. We briefly talk about the Bear River Massacre and the work of Darren Parry and Thomas Murphy. We also preview the upcoming Brigham Young Journals project and the Church History Symposium to be held next month (March 2022). This was an important and very exciting interview to conduct, and I want to thank Devan for coming on. The 2022 Church History Symposium will be held on March 10–11, 2022. On the latest episode of Mormon Book Reviews Steven Pynakker welcomes on Roger Launius who wrote the very important and definitive biography "Joseph Smith III: Pragmatic Prophet". Dr Launius, member of the Community of Christ, wrote his dissertation on Joseph Smith III and it was later published by University of Illinois Press. The book won the prestigious Evans Award for biography. This was a fascinating conversation and we cover topics like the early days of the formation of the RLDS , Emma Smith's denial of polygamy practiced by Joseph Smith, David Hyrum's mental breakdown, Race and the Priesthood, and the legacy Joseph left. We then change it up a bit and discuss his time as the chief historian of NASA where he took on Roswell and Fake Moon landing conspiracy theories. The conversation then turns to baseball and the biography he wrote "Charlie Finley: The Outrageous Story of Baseball's Super Showman". Did you know Finley was instrumental in the American League adopting the designated hitter rule? And that he tried to create the position of the designated runner and introduce orange baseballs to the game? 3 Evangelicals Visit The Church of Jesus Christ!

At the very last moment I was able to have a conversation with two Evangelical neighbors who recently attended a special Saturday night service of the Church of Jesus Christ. On this special episode of Mormon Book Reviews Tom Hulery and Edward Allison shared with me their thoughts and feeelings of attending this unique Church. We discuss some of the preaching and music we experienced. Both were very fascinated by the service and felt very comfortable attending this Christ-centered service. They made some observations about some of what was taught from the pulpit and we discussed the style of the music and worship. We also got to witness the operation of the Gifts of the Spirit, including speaking in tongues! And of course Arlene Buffington's unique hymn book "Songs of Zion" was given a shout-out. Tom also discussed a bit of his childhood and two books that he has written, "Poems of Life" and "Tracks Trails and Trouble".

On the latest episode of Mormon Book Reviews Robin Jensen editor of the Revelations and Translations series of volumes for the Joseph Smith Papers Project joins me for a conversation. We discuss the latest volume of the of the Project, the recently released Facsimile Edition of the Original Manuscript of the Book of Mormon. We discuss the history of the Joseph Smith Papers as well as the preservation history of the Book of Mormon and the various attempts to photograph it . Robin discusses how he got involved in the project and the very laborious process of piecing together small fragments and indentifying their placement in the text. We then talk about our friend Christopher Thomas's reaction to being able to see the original manuscript in person. Then the discussion turns to Mark Hofman and how Brent is now better able to detect forgeries as a result of his experiences with him. Finding Joseph Smith's Lost Family Bible w/Brent Ashworth

On the latest episode of Mormon Book Reviews we continue our "Show and Tell" series with Brent Ashworth. On this segment we discuss how Joseph and Emma Smith's Family Bible was found in 1970 and the process of how Brent was able to acquire it. This Bible has the handwriting of Joseph and Emma Smith as well as Joseph Smith III. It was very touching to see where Joseph Smith recorded the death of his brother Alvin and Joseph Smith III recorded his father's death. The discovery of this Bible was able to provide the names of the twin babies that Emma lost as well as a son that was unknown to history.

I was at first reluctant to have this conversation, but the more I thought about it I felt it would be important for an outsider like me to participate in it. I also felt that it was important to discuss Justin's faith journey which can often be overlooked when someone does something controversial. The making of the film and building the set, how studying the Book of Isaiah led him to investigate what happened at Carthage, how watching an old video uploaded to YouTube impacted him, and encountering the work of Sam Weston and John Hajicek are among the many topics covered. Using the facilities of a local Evangelical church they were able to have this wonderful conversation about the history of Warsaw Illinois. Brian author of "The History of Warsaw Illinois: Including the Mormon Period" discusses what drove him to write the very first history of this community and the important role it has played to help heal old wounds. We discuss Thomas Sharp, the participants who killed Joseph Smith, the sham trial of the defendants, and the bravery of Eliza Graham to testify at the trial. Steven Pynakker talks about the importance of reading the book if you are going to write a book review about one. Brian also discusses what its like to serve as a Bishop in a Ward of college students at BYU-Idaho. A special thanks to Brian for making the trip to film this interview it was a real pleasure!

An Evangelical Interviews Dan Vogel

Steven Pynakker has a unique and wide ranging conversation with one of the most renowned historians of Mormonism, Dan Vogel. This is the first time that an Evangelical has interviewed Dan. Author of many important works on early Mormonism, Joseph Smith, and now the Book of Abraham. We discuss his background and how a Pentecostal minister in England told Dan of Jerald and Sandra Tanner and a narrative of Mormon history that he was unaware of that set Dan on his journey. We also discuss a Presbyterian minister who was an important supporter, patron, and friend to him. The conversation includes topics like the early treasure digging days of young Joseph, the Mound Builder myths common during this time, how the spectacles entered the narrative early on, using the seer stone to partially translate the Book of Abraham, his next book focusing on the 1831-1839 period in Joseph's life, and why Dan advocates a hemispheric model narrative for Book of Mormon geography. We then talk about Richard Bushman and his book Rough Stone Rolling, Fawn Brodie's No Man Know My History, and him giving the introduction speech for for famed Jacksonian historian Robert Remini at the Mormon History Association. Devery S. Anderson, marketing director for Signature Books and author of the book "Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement" , has a conversation with your host Steven Pynakker. The book is the primary basis for the ABC miniseries "Women of the Movement" debuting on January 6th. In the episode we discuss Devery being raised as Baptist and then he and his family converting to the LDS Church. As he began researching the Black priesthood ban, he encountered the story of the murder of Emmett Till. This began an almost 20 year journey which included befriending Emmett's mother, conducting extensive research into the trial and surrounding events, and finally getting his work published and it being optioned in Hollywood. We also get a preview of some upcoming titles that Signature Book will soon be releasing.

Heartlanders, Calvinists, and Nationalism w/ Hanna Seariac

Evangelical Steven Pynakker has a very important conversation with Hanna Seariac regarding the rise of White Nationalism within some parts of the Heartlander Movement and Calvinism. In this episode Hanna discusses her conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, encountering the Heartland Model for BOM geography, finding some nationalistic tendencies in that group, deciding to write an article about it, and becoming more progressive in her faith and politics. We also discuss Christian apologist Aaron Shafovaloff , Calvinistic Nationalism, the toxic "Bro-Culture" of Apologia Church/Studio, and Jaxon Washburn being banned from their church campus. In the video Hanna stated she was "agnostic" regarding BOM geography, she wanted me to clarify that she believes that it does have some connection to the ancient world. A Christmas Story Influenced by BYU's Christmas Snows Christmas Winds? w/ Nick Jones

Nick Jones co-host of the Rock & Roll podcast "Pod of Thunder" joins Steven Pynakker to discuss the profound BYU film production "Christmas Snows, Christmas Winds" which is based on a short story in the book "Frost in the Orchard" by Donald R. Marshall. Nick came across this film a few years ago and wanted to come on to discuss it. Nick and Steven are from Northwest Indiana, birthplace of American writer and radio personality Jean Shepherd. He is best known for writing the story that the holiday classic movie "A Christmas Story" is based on. We note some similarities that the two films share and how it is a pretty authentic period piece. We also discuss how unusual of a Christmas film it is. It doesn't end with a happy ending and is open ended without resolution. This hidden gem deserves to become a cult classic!

Thomas then gives a very thorough analysis and critique of Rod's Model including DNA and it's role in determining Native American ancestry, Race being a social construct, a proper understanding of human evolution and origins, Mound Builder myths, FIRM Foundation misrepresents itself as doing proper indigenous peoples research, and much more. Thomas finishes by proposing a Book of Mormon Alternative Origin Model. This was a great interview and I hope will lead to more dialog and discussion. Maybe it will lead to Thomas and Rod having lunch one day!

LDS Anthropologist becomes an Evangelical Celebrity? A conversation with Thomas Murphy

On the latest episode of Mormon Book Reviews Evangelical Steven Pynakker interviews Thomas Murphy a Anthropologist with Edmonds College. Thomas was in a couple of Evangelical documentaries in the early to mid aughts. DNA vs The Book of Mormon (2003) and The Bible vs The Book of Mormon were seen by millions of Evangelicals. Thomas was extensively interviewed and featured in both. For the first time he tells the story of his almost lifelong interactions with Evangelicals starting at age 9. We also discuss the impact he's had on Mormonism 20 years after the release of his paper “Lamanite Genesis, Genealogy, and Genetics,” the first peer-reviewed article on DNA and the Book of Mormon. There is much more to the man who gave us America's most famous sermon "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God". In this groundbreaking work Jonathan reveals that what many in the LDS Church think about Edwards is inaccurate. In the interview we discuss how Joseph may have started reading Edwards work when he was around the age of six. Neville demonstrates that the Book of Mormon is heavily reliant on Edwards. As a translator Joseph would have been influenced by the environment he was in. This study shows that many of the non-Biblical phrases in the BOM can be directly connected to the writings and sermons of Jonathan Edwards. The author also reveals that Edwards may have played a pivotal role in preparing America and the world for Restoration.

An Evangelical Interviews LDS Theologian Jaxon Washburn

In this fairly wide ranging conversation, Jaxon Washburn and Steven Pynakker have a productive dialogue between one another. Jaxon was raised in a faithful LDS household until his mother became a "Non-Denominational" Christian when he was 12. After that, he would attend both an Evangelical church and his LDS ward. He was exposed to the Protestant concept of Grace, and that would later influence his theology. Other topics covered include: the Cross, Heavenly Mother, the treatment of the LGBTQ community in the Church, and woman and the Priesthood. My first interview is with Robert who is a YouTuber who has a channel called "Book of Mormon Editions". He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In each episode he gives a detailed review of various editions of the Book of Mormon. Did you know that there are many editions printed by groups other than the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Community of Christ? He reviews editions from various groups and gives insightful information. This is a favorite channel of mine and it was really cool to get to know Robert and have him on. Check out his channel!

Dr. Bushman is best know for his groundbreaking work "Joseph Smith: Rough Stone Rolling". In this episode we talk about the growth and development of early Mormonism, Evangelical and LDS dialogue, Leonard Arrington, and his ongoing project The Center for Latter-day Saint Arts. Did you know that there was a purge of John Birch Society members and other right wingers in the Church during Benson's Presidency? In this very interesting final episode, Evangelical Steven Pynakker and Matthew delve into the fight that the Church Bureaucracy had with right-wing elements in the church. Conversations that the author had with the John Birch Society President John F. McManus are detailed as well as Benson's relationship with Militia leader and Presidential candidate Bo Gritz. This was a wonderful series of interviews and I was honored to have Matthew on.

Ezra was tasked by the President to roll back the New Deal programs in the Department Of Agriculture. Find out why he was largely unable to do so. Watch Evangelical Steven Pynakker interview Jonathan Neville. In this episode we discuss the "Heartland Model" of Book of Mormon events. Over the last century the Meso-American model has been the dominate narrative regarding where events of the Book of Mormon took place. Now a new movement is gaining momentum that advocates for what many of the early Saints and church leaders thought about where these events occurred. This, is what I hope, will become an on going conversation amongst all the different viewpoints of this issue. I welcome advocates of other models to approach me and make a proposal to come on and be interviewed as well.
