<itunes:title>Season 03 - Episode 05 - Mad Ghoul Radio- Deep Space Transmission (Mad Ghoul Macabre Mix)</itunes:title>

This one plays like a signal you intercepted by accident somewhere way past the edge of the map. The whole mix lives in that deep space void where everything feels distant, stripped down, and slightly off. Cold synth lines hum like worn-out ship engines, static cuts in and out like broken comms, and pieces drift by that feel pulled from abandoned stations, dead satellites, and missions that never made it back.

As it moves, the tension creeps in without announcing itself. You start to feel the walls close in through metallic echoes, low mechanical pulses, and the subtle presence of something that never fully shows itself. It leans into that claustrophobic side of space where isolation turns into paranoia and every sound feels like it might mean something.

There is also a layer running underneath that feels older and stranger, built on analog tones and early electronic textures that sound less like music and more like something discovered. It gives the whole episode a raw edge, like you are hearing technology that was never meant to be understood.

There is no tracklist and no clean entry point. It plays like a lost transmission that slipped through, and once you lock into it, it is hard to shake the feeling that it is still broadcasting somewhere.

If you sit with it long enough, you might start to wonder who sent it and why it is still out there.

We open the gates with haunting orchestral dread before plunging headfirst into the raw, bleeding underbelly of late-80s and early-90s industrial. From grinding mechanical nightmares and cold psychedelic transmissions to sweaty Detroit club memories and pure electro-industrial rage, the first half of this episode is soaked in rust, static, and danger.

Then the fog shifts. We pay tribute to a classic horror bunker score through warped analog nostalgia before a very special guest drops in — metal legend Dave Ellefson from Megadeth — to say hello to the ghouls.

From there, the tempo detonates. We dive deep into the ferocious world of drum & bass: old-school neurofunk venom that chews through the speakers, followed by a sleek, modern monster that proves the genre is stronger and hungrier than ever.

As always, we close the ritual the only way we know how — with Trent Reznor, whose own brush with drum & bass makes this finale feel perfectly timed.

The basement lights go low and the microphones mostly go quiet for this special Mad Ghoul Macabre edition of Mad Ghoul Radio.

Season 03, Episode 03 drifts into darker territory with a continuous mix built for horror fans who live for film scores. This one is dedicated to the sound of the undead. Slow dread. Analog synth pulses. Cold orchestral cues that feel like they’re creeping down an empty street at midnight.

Instead of the usual commentary, the Ghoul lets the music take over. A long, uninterrupted mix stitched together from some of the most haunting zombie film scores ever recorded, along with a few unexpected deep cuts pulled from the darker corners of soundtrack history.

It’s the kind of episode meant to be played late at night. Lights off. Headphones on.

Season 3 of Mad Ghoul Radio kicks off on a very personal note. After a long break, I finished recording this episode exactly two months to the day after my sister passed away, using it as a way to start finding my footing again. We'll drift through shadowy club memories, cinematic soundtracks, and a tribute to one of the most important — and underrated — artists my dad first played for me growing up. Along the way I talk about grief, how music rewires the way we process loss, and the sounds that shaped my taste. As always, I close the show with Trent Reznor, tying it to the new tour and my plans to be right on the rail when it hits Grand Rapids.

#madghoulradio #thepfpn #doldinger #

Episode 29: Freeform From the Chaos

The Mad Ghoul is back in the basement after a noisy couple of weeks. Life has been upside down, schedules have been wrecked, and the crates have been calling. So this week there is no theme, no concept, no structure. Just a freeform night built from tracks the Ghoul has not dusted off in far too long.

The show opens with a classic cue from the original Nightmare on Elm Street, then drifts into a mix of forgotten electronic experiments, cosmic festival relics, fuzz drenched rock, and a few deep cuts from scenes that never got their proper due. Think of it like pulling up a chair while the Ghoul drags out an old crate and says, “Here. Let me play you something I used to love.”

The selections range from digital fever dreams to psychedelic world grooves to sharp alternative blasts and late night lounge gems. A brand new electro track also sneaks into the set as a reminder that the future is still humming along in the wires.

The show closes with Trent, as it should. And yes, the Ghoul shares some excitement about a rare Rock and Roll Hall of Fame signed piece that finally made its way into the collection.

A loose, nostalgic, chaotic episode for the holiday week. Press play, turn down the lights, and sink into the freeform.

#madghoulradio #thepfpn

Slow build... Candles up... Room on edge... The ritual starts.

From there the set follows the bloodstream into EBM and industrial territory. Detroit crate finds slide into Wax Trax lore. City Club memories bubble up with that familiar fog and concrete heat. It is the lineage in motion, not a museum tour. Tight sequences... Cold synths... Human sweat.

Shapeshifters returns with an industrial bruiser facing a disco classic. You decide which version takes the crown. We also resurface a cornerstone track from a Vancouver powerhouse and let it throb the floor the way it used to at 2 a.m. The close is an early-era NIN mix that holds the tempo while the lights fall, perfect for the last slow walk to the door.

If you live for sequenced basslines, and that snap when European minimalism hits Midwest dance floors, this one is for you.

The season’s here—dead leaves on the ground, fog on the street, and the turntable glowing in the dark. Episode 24 of Mad Ghoul Radio is all about just a few of the records I pull when October comes creeping in.

This week we wander through some of the different corners of October sound—horror punk anthems, shadowy post-punk, gothic whispers, and fuzz-drenched surf riffs that sound like they were cut for drive-in monster flicks. Some tracks are moody and hypnotic, others trashy and chaotic, and a few are just plain strange—but together they map out the full Halloween night: the party, the walk home under streetlights, and the after-hours haze where the ghosts hang around.

And as always, we close the crypt with Trent Reznor—this time his and Atticus Ross’s eerie, industrial reconstruction of a Halloween classic.

Pour a drink, kill the lights, and let Episode 24 take you through the season one haunted groove at a time.

#madghoulradio #thepfpn #halloween

Episode 23 – Sinister Soundscapes

October is here, and the season of screams has begun. On this episode, I take you deep into the world of haunted attractions—where sound and music do just as much heavy lifting as the actors and sets. From the gothic scores of Midnight Syndicate and Nox Arcana, to the unsettling chaos of Goblin and the stripped-down menace of John Carpenter, to the underground realms of Lustmord, Coil, and Aphex Twin—we explore how audio creates atmosphere, tension, and terror.

We’ll also step inside the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World, breaking down how a single theme—“Grim Grinning Ghosts”—mutates into dirges, waltzes, whispers, and sing-alongs across the ride. It’s the perfect example of why sound is the true heartbeat of a haunt.

This one’s loaded with history, tracks, and personal stories from years of living inside this scene. And don’t worry—the night doesn’t end here. I’ll close things out with Nine Inch Nails before playing the entire Haunted Mansion ride-through in full.

#madghoulradio #thepfpn #halloween #hauntedattractions #thehauntedmansion #coil #midnightsyndicate #hauntinginthehills

The Lost, The Buried, and The Unheard

This week on Mad Ghoul Radio, we slip into the shadows of the unreleased and the forgotten. From obscure themes that never saw the light of day to scores lost in studio vaults, tonight’s set is all about the music that almost disappeared.

We crack open the story of composers whose work was cut, buried, or tossed aside—Lalo Schifrin’s terrifying vision for The Exorcist, Wendy Carlos’ suppressed brilliance for The Shining, Joseph LoDuca’s raw Evil Dead cues, and more. Along the way, we drop into cult swamps, cosmic horror, and even a haunted surf detour with a friend of the show.

With October just around the corner, the air is colder, the nights are darker, and the music gets stranger. Robb reflects on the weight of real-life horrors versus the ritual of horror films and soundtracks that let us reset, then dives headfirst into spooky season.

This episode features a deep spotlight on Night of the Demons (1988)—from its infamous animated intro and Dennis Michael Tenney’s synth-driven score to the sequels, the 2009 remake, and even a few personal connections with the cast and crew. From there, the journey moves through gothic grooves and doom-soaked anthems, with detours into cult favorites and modern darkness, carrying listeners deeper into September’s shadow.

Robb also shares thoughts on the brand-new TRON: Ares score by Nine Inch Nails, with an early review from a promo listen, before closing the night with a perfect track to seal the mood.

The season is here, the pumpkins are glowing, and the Mad Ghoul is fully awake.

#thepfpn #madghoulradio

Episode 20 – Punk Starts Here

Punk rock takes over the basement tonight.

For our 20th episode, we’re answering a listener request and diving headfirst into the roots of punk. From Detroit’s raw beginnings to the snarling chaos of New York and London, through Boston, L.A., and even Australia—we trace the sparks that lit the fuse before punk became a global explosion.

This is just part one. Punk is too sprawling, too messy, too alive to fit into a single show. We’ll be back with more—hardcore, post-punk, the ’80s, and beyond.

We kick things off with a nod to The Return of the Living Dead—the only horror film that made punk its heartbeat—then move through the proto-punk innovators, the underground legends, and the early firebrands who turned three chords into a revolution. Along the way, we hit personal favorites, cult cuts, and some stories you may not know, but should.

And, as always, we close out the night with Trent Reznor—because the spirit of punk is alive and well in Nine Inch Nails.

Turn it up, strap in, and get ready. In Episode 12 of Mad Ghoul Radio, we take a late-night plunge into the haunted heart of summer camp season with Lake of the Damned.

From the absurd perfection of Meatballs (1979) to the brooding shadows of forgotten slashers like Madman, The Burning, and Sleepaway Camp, this episode blends eerie soundscapes, cult film trailers, and unsettling tracks that feel like they were pulled from a cursed tape left behind at Camp Nowhere. We spotlight the one and only Felissa Rose—scream queen, Slayer collaborator, and total horror legend—and we get weird with a brand-new Shapeshifters segment featuring a sun-drenched classic reimagined by gothic titans Type O Negative.

Welcome back to the haunted airwaves. In this episode of Mad Ghoul Radio, We kick things off with a heartfelt tribute to the late Mark Snow—composer of The X-Files theme and master of mood. It’s not just a nod to a legend; it’s a full-on sonic séance.

From there, we go deep into the strange with a jagged transmission from Cleveland’s own Pere Ubu—no clean boxes, no safe bets, just raw, broken beauty.

We also shine a spotlight on UK-based composer Mark Fox—an underground force in horror scoring with a hands-on approach that borders on mad science. We get an exclusive first play of his main theme from The Death Molesters: Barn of Blood, a new gore-drenched, Grindhouse Releasing-backed film that’s already turning heads in the genre scene.

In our new Bloodlines segment, we trace the DNA of a modern chill-funk track all the way back to late-80's Compton. One dusty electro beat. Two totally different eras. One undeniable vibe.

Then, we hit a raw nerve with a personal tribute to the one and only Ozzy Osbourne—following his final performance in Birmingham on July 5, 2025. DJ Robb shares childhood memories, a wild Harmony House signing, and what it meant to grow up with Ozzy’s voice blasting through the static.

The episode closes with a track that says it all—an anthem for outcasts, misfits, and anyone who’s ever found salvation in distortion.

Is Mad Ghoul Radio a horror show? Sometimes. But it’s always been more than that.

In this episode, I take you back to the roots—before the films, before the podcast, before the name. This whole thing started as a way to share the best music most people have never heard. Not just horror scores or creepy vibes—though there’s plenty of that too—but deep cuts, B-sides, forgotten grooves, and offbeat sounds that stick.

We kick things off somewhere unexpected: out on the lake. Sun overhead, pontoon gliding, cooler full, and a reggae track that hits different when you’re drifting through 250,000 acres of water. From there? A detour into nu-metal nostalgia, a cryptic trip back to the bunker, and a track that feels like a half-remembered dream melting on tape.

Episode 10 also marks the debut of a brand-new segment: Buried But Not Dead—a tribute to the songs that were overlooked, underplayed, or quietly left behind. These are the ones that still haunt me. I dig one out of my own DJ vault to kick it off.

There’s jazz, there’s funk, there’s analog synth madness. There’s Charles Bronson. There’s a band in ape masks. And there’s a final track—like always—from the master himself, Trent Reznor.

Don’t just listen. Feel it. Remember it. Let it get under your skin.

And hey—if the new segment hits, let me know. If there’s something you want to hear—something you barely remember or think never existed—try me. I’ve never failed to find a track. Ever.

This episode is part history lesson, part love letter, and part mixtape for the strange, the heavy, and the haunted.

You'll hear horror-metal legends, ghetto tech bangers, ska-punk chaos, synth-drenched nightmares, and a few stories from my own teenage years coming up in the Motor City.

No spoilers—but it ends with a track that changed everything for me.

Detroit isn't just a place. It's a pulse. And tonight, we're tuning in.

But I still wanted to put something out for you, so I’m trying something different this week — a pure mix. No voice, no breaks, just the music and whatever it wakes up in your head.

This one leans into shadowy ambience, ghost-touched synths, forgotten score fragments, and the kind of textures that make you check the hall behind you. Every transition stays slow and deliberate so the mood never breaks.

Episode 5 is coming soon.

Salem, 1692—a town devoured by hysteria, where whispers killed and witches were born.

For me, witches come second only to zombies in the hierarchy of horror obsessions, and this episode is proof of that. This isn’t broomsticks and pointy hats—it’s witches as tragedy, symbol, and rebellion.

It’s also officially haunt season, which means Mad Ghoul Macabre is sinking even deeper into the shadows.

Episode 1 – Into the Macabre

Hey there, friends and creatures of the night—welcome to the very first episode of Mad Ghoul Macabre. I’m your host, DJ Robb, stepping out of the shadows with a brand-new offshoot from the Mad Ghoul family.

After years of spinning eclectic vibes on Mad Ghoul Radio, I needed another outlet—one dedicated to all things scary. This show is laser-focused on horror scores and soundtracks, unsettling cult bands, eerie atmospheres, and anything that creeps under your skin. It won’t be for everyone, but that’s fine—it’s the kind of show I’d want to listen to myself. Pure nightmare fuel for late-night!

In our premiere, we dig into:

Unsung horror composers whose scores deserve more recognition.

Italian library music that plays like the soundtrack to a midnight giallo.

Industrial pioneers who cracked sound open and made it dangerous.

Electronic visionaries who turned atmosphere into horror without a screen.

Modern disciples of horror soundtracks carrying the torch forward.

And as always, the ritual holds: every episode in the Mad Ghoul family closes with Trent Reznor / Nine Inch Nails. For this inaugural outing, I go straight to the heart of The Downward Spiral—a song and an album that remain some of the darkest, most uncompromising works in music history.

I also talk about seeing NIN live in Detroit this past Friday—my 39th show, and easily top five. Not because of deep cuts, but because of the sheer power of the performance: the sound, the staging, the energy, the Boys Noize remixes, the shadow-play visuals. It wasn’t nostalgia—it was proof that Nine Inch Nails still evolve, still devastate.

So buckle up. This is Episode 1 of Mad Ghoul Macabre—a journey into the heart of horror music.
