Episode 3 | Roundtable Discussion: Diamond in the Rough

Join the Arts Management Program of DLS-CSB and Pinto Art Museum as they explore the role of cultural exchanges in the development of Philippine and French art forms and creative economies in a roundtable discussion with film director Mark Meilly, co-founders of Taverne Gutenberg Maia d’Aboville (art director) and Henry Lamy (painter), gallery manager of Rose Studio Art Gallery Claire Thibaud-Piton, and visual artist, director, and producer Avid Liongoren.

In partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Ambassade de France Aux Philippines et en Micronésie, and Jewelmer, Diamond in the Rough is curated by Sandra Palomar-Quan aimed to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity between the Philippines and France. Participating students are from Arts Management (Marketing and Public Relations & Arts Education and Community Outreach) classes of Dindin Araneta and Alain Zedrick Camiling, respectively.

Episode 2 | Plein Air Painting Workshop

Gerardo Jimenez’ watercolor works have brought fluidity and luminosity in his own self expression, his works depict a documentation of his experiences which he is able to portray in the works that he plans to create. Just like in editing photos he brings more life by bringing accents to the smallest details he admires the most, by adding boldness, strengthening contrast and sharpness in his works. He delivers visual poetry in the simple things that we see in our everyday life, which immortalizes its significance as long as the artwork continues to exist.

Jimenez’ worked on watercolor since 2015, through painting watercolor, it became his true purpose and works are mostly focused on light shadow color and composition. Most of his works are based on his roles as a businessman and an athlete. His fencing was also a big help in his career as an artist using the values of diligence and grit in continuing his passion for watercolor. Observing restaurant interiors and backstories were his inspirations for his first solo exhibits. He was awarded 3rd Place On the Spot Contest, International Watercolor Society Philippines, Annual Convention, GSIS Museum , Pasay City, Manila in 2018. The same year of his first exhibit. Currently hisart affiliations are AGWA- FLOW (Filipino League of Watercolorists) in which he is the Founding Member, and the Westgrove Fine Arts Academy in Ayala Westgrove, Silang, Cavite as a member.

Episode 1 | Arboretum Tour with Ronald Achacoso

Take a tour around Pintô Arboretum, a 2,000-sqm botanical garden that acts as the museum’s very own “living” gallery. In this episode, join Ronald Achacoso and learn about the Philippines’ indigenous plants featured in the exhibit’s walkthrough last August 5, 2022 called Diamond in the Rough.

Richard Achacoso has played one of the key roles in developing and curating the “Pinto Arboretum” which holds a variety of Philippine native plants, having a background in painting, he sees plants as a self sustaining artwork as it involves photosynthesis which he says is like “solidified sunlight” he also adds that “everything you see here is an expression of sunlight”
