The Psalms are the way out. They're not poems about God; they're words spoken to Him — raw, specific, and unembarrassed. Eugene Peterson called prayer answering speech: God speaks first, and the Psalms are how people learned to answer back.

Each episode is short. One Psalm read aloud, a few words on what the writer is actually doing with God, and then a line handed to you to finish in your own words.

This is a beginner's series, and it's meant to end. Not your praying of the Psalms — Peterson prayed them for fifty years — but your need to be handed one. When you find yourself opening the book on your own and saying your own thing to God, stop listening. That was the point.
