Doug Campbell, an Albuquerque native, has launched the "Leaders of Enchantment" podcast to inspire New Mexico's growth by featuring influential leaders and their stories.
Campbell earned bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from UNM and then moved to Colorado, where he built and sold two successful companies: Roccor, LLC, and Solid Power Inc. After Solid Power's IPO, he returned to Albuquerque, contributing to the local start-up ecosystem and the UNM community.

      <itunes:title>EP 35 - WARD HENDON</itunes:title>

Ward Hendon is an investor, teacher, and entrepreneur whose career has followed a deliberately unconventional path. He began in legal practice before founding and exiting a pioneering tech-enabled legal services company, then shifted into teaching MBA students, law students, and incarcerated individuals. Along the way, Ward has invested in emerging businesses, served on boards, and mentored entrepreneurs and CEOs navigating growth and transition.

Ward is a Partner at Dangerous Ventures, where he backs companies building a more sustainable and resilient future. The firm is rooted in the belief that the world’s most existential challenges represent an opportunity to build the next generation of enduring businesses—ones that empower both people and planet to thrive.

His work has led him to a place of thoughtful contradiction—deeply hopeful about what’s possible, while holding real concern for the future of our planet and the people on it. Today, Ward is involved in a small but intentional ecosystem focused on accelerating technology and business-model solutions to critical social and environmental challenges. While he doesn’t believe business or technology alone will solve these problems, he sees them as powerful tools for sustaining habitability—and as vehicles for meaningful collaboration, learning, and impact.

Outside of work, Ward is happiest outdoors, usually with kids in tow, a backpack on his shoulders, and the essential ingredients for a proper campfire: sticks, marshmallows, graham crackers, and plenty of chocolate.

Leaders of Enchantment – Episode 20: Mayor Gregg Hull

Greggory D. Hull has been a proud resident of New Mexico for over 35 years, with the City of Rio Rancho at the center of his personal and professional life. Alongside his wife, Carrie, he raised five children in the community—all of whom attended local public schools. Today, their family spans three generations, with nine grandchildren also calling New Mexico home.

Before stepping into public service, Gregg built and operated two successful businesses over more than a decade. Most notably, from 2000 to 2012, he served as President and CEO of Certified Packing & Crating, Inc., a logistics and packaging company serving the greater Albuquerque and Rio Rancho areas. After taking over a struggling business in 2000, he restructured it, created full-time jobs, and ultimately sold his interests in 2012 to spend more time with family and reevaluate his goals. His experience navigating the regulatory and economic challenges of entrepreneurship deeply shaped his approach to leadership.

Driven by a commitment to his community, Gregg ran for mayor of Rio Rancho and was first elected in April 2014. His vision and leadership have since been reaffirmed by voters, leading to re-election in both 2018 and 2022. He is now serving his third term as the city’s first full-time mayor—prior to 2014, the position was part-time.

Mayor Hull’s administration has focused on infrastructure, public safety, and economic development. Under his leadership, Rio Rancho has received national recognition—including being named one of the Best Places to Live for Families in 2024, the Safest Place to Live in New Mexico, and one of the Most Affordable Places to Live in the U.S.

At the heart of Gregg's work is a desire to build a strong economic base by supporting both large and small businesses and fostering a thriving environment for job creation. Beyond politics and business, Gregg and Carrie remain active in their community and local church, living out their shared values of service and stewardship.

This episode dives into Mayor Hull’s journey from entrepreneur to long-serving mayor—and the vision guiding Rio Rancho into the future.

He knew organizing a bicycle race in Grant County would help to promote southwest New Mexico to travelers. Since 1987, Tour of the Gila has grown to become an iconic American stage race that is renowned across the globe.

As a UCI-sanctioned road race, Tour of the Gila is known as the place for pros and elite amateurs to showcase their talent. Olympians like Kristin Armstrong and Mara Abbott adore the Tour of the Gila, and Americans racing on and director World Tour teams appreciate the race’s role in their path to the top. Such professionals include 2023 Vuelta a España winner Sepp Kuss and EF Education-Cannondale Director Sportif Carmen Small.

As a USA Cycling-sanctioned road race, Tour of the Gila also attracts amateur cyclists wanting to experience the notorious challenge of the area’s steep and scenic roads while testing their physical limits.

By traveling diverse roads and highlighting New Mexico history, Tour of the Gila brings to attention the region’s qualities, which include the landscape that inspired the creation of the Wilderness Act; a robust farming, ranching and mining heritage; an historic military fort; a growing creative community; and an enclave of cyclists who consider Grant County their secret hideaway and dream playground.

      <itunes:title>EP 5 - JESSIE BARRIE</itunes:title>

Dr Jessie Barrie – Head of School at Bosque School.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Jessie Barrie has had a diverse and impactful career in education. After growing up in Toronto and attending St. Clement’s School, she pursued her undergraduate studies at Acadia University in Nova Scotia before earning her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Organizations from the University of Santa Barbara.

Jessie’s passion for outdoor education led her to unique teaching environments across the globe, from the outback of Australia to the peaks of Southeast Alaska, the jungles of Fiji, and the river crossings of the Gila. These formative experiences shaped her approach to education, focusing on providing transformative opportunities that help students grow as learners, leaders, and community members.

In 2005, Jessie moved to Albuquerque for a professional opportunity, not knowing much about the city beyond its pop culture references. She joined the Albuquerque Academy, where she served for 14 years as chair of the experiential education department and was a key member of the academic leadership team. Her dedication to experiential learning extended beyond the classroom as the founding executive director of the Independent Schools Experiential Education Network.

On July 1, 2019, Jessie became the fourth head of school at Bosque School, where she continues to champion "challenging education" while fostering a strong, trust-based connection with her students. Jessie firmly believes in the value of the trust students place in her, as well as the impact educators have on their lives, echoing Forest Witcraft’s sentiment that "the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child."

Peter Trevisani – New Mexico United Owner & CEO. Investor and Enthusiast of Meow Wolf, Area 15, Full Script, and Training Mate

Peter Trevisani is a visionary leader who is driven by his passion for community, competition, and creativity. As the founding President, CEO, and majority owner of New Mexico United, Peter is dedicated to using soccer as a powerful tool for community engagement and meaningful growth in New Mexico.

Originally from just outside of Boston, Massachusetts, Peter graduated from Boston College, where he played American football, before pursuing an MBA from Columbia University. His career in finance spanned 16 years, culminating in his role as a Partner at Thornburg Investment Management in Santa Fe, NM. In 2015, Peter transitioned out of the corporate world to focus on the things that truly inspired him.

Peter’s love for immersive experiences led him to become an early investor and advisor for Meow Wolf, the groundbreaking art collective in Santa Fe, and other ventures such as Area 15 Full script and Training Mate. His commitment to fitness also inspired “Project 47,” a 47-day fitness challenge where he explored a different discipline each day, from CrossFit to water aerobics, even taking on dodgeball with his son’s 6th-grade class.

But it’s Peter’s deep-rooted belief in the power of community that shaped his most impactful endeavor: the creation of New Mexico United. His vision for the club goes beyond soccer—it’s about inspiring and uplifting New Mexicans. Under his leadership, the team aims to compete at the highest levels, with the ambition of winning the USL Championship and Open Cup, while also being a force for positive, systemic change in the state, fostering pride and self-worth within the community.

When he’s not immersed in soccer, fitness, or art, Peter spends time with his wife of 20 years, Wendy, their three children—Blake, Luke, and Pierce—and their two Leonbergers, Tyrone and Barcelona.

      <itunes:title>EP 1 - DR GERALD MAY</itunes:title>

Dr. Gerald May joined the civil engineering faculty at the University of New Mexico (UNM) in 1967 and served as dean of the School of Engineering from 1980 to 1986. He then became the 14th president of UNM, serving from 1986 to 1990. Throughout his tenure at UNM, Dr. May had a profound impact on the university and its students.

Dr. May was a pivotal mentor in my own career. As my professor, he advised me to pursue graduate school, a decision that set me on a path to success. His guidance was one of the most significant influences in my life.

In recognition of his lasting contributions, we named the Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Department in his honor last year. This permanent tribute reflects my deep appreciation for Dr. May's impact on me, Doug Campbell, and countless other students over the years.

Dr. May is someone I deeply admire and look up to, making him the perfect first guest for our podcast, "Leader of Enchantment."

Jessie also chairs the New Mexico Association of Independent Schools (NMAIS) and is an active member of the Albuquerque community, living in the North Valley with her three children. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys horseback riding, dabbling in tennis, pickleball, and skiing.

      <itunes:title>EP 1 TEASER - DR GERALD MAY</itunes:title>

This permanent tribute reflects my deep appreciation for the impact Dr. May has had on me, Doug Campbell, and countless other students over the years.

Dr. May is someone I deeply admire and look up to, making him the perfect first guest for our podcast, "Leader of Enchantment."
