Law and a Woozy Kind of Love

A Podcast by Swaja Saransh

What's Law got to do with it?

The rule of law is a favoured term when trying to understand the health of a county’s democracy- a healthy rule of law indicates an ideal state of affairs where the various institutions of the state are working in harmony in the interest of the people. But what happens when there is an imbalance? Do we immediately learn about it? If not, then how long and how far does it have to go out of balance before the common person registers and people act? But then again, “people” are not one thing- there are groups of individuals and communities with a range of interests and influence over the state and its various appendages. In India’s case, the top 10% of the country (in terms of wealth) wields a far greater influence over its institutions than the rest of the population. What about the millennials and the Gen Zs within this group? Do they care about the rule of law? India is also a signatory to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), goals that necessitate the establishment of rule of law. Do global conversations like these matter to the young and old in this class or to the state?

The podcast mulls over all of this and more with conversations across the spectrum.

It is about everyday accounts of loving and living in one's country. It is about people, their engagement with the constitution and the understanding of rule of law in different areas of public and private life; and what could be its impact on future generations. Each episode takes you on a journey within a certain dimension of policy or law.

If loving your country and the planet is about invoking a certain kind of wooziness, well, lets give in to that through the lens of the law and see what we come up with. Tune into Law and a woozy kind of love.

Research: Swaja S, Priya Sharma

Script, Music and Direction: Swaja S

Poster: Shikhar 'Sky' Singhal

Acknowledgements: Aditi Arur, Himanshu Baranwal, Mansi Sharma, Siddharth Narain, Vasuman Khandelwal
