The middle aged meanderings of a Gen X slacker. My name is Clarence Ting and I am that slacker. I’ve had the good fortune to call myself an adult for most of my life, but to be honest, I’m still trying to figure out how to be a good one. And so, I’ve been thinking a lot about how exactly I got to this point. But instead of just taking a nap - which would be my normal reaction - I’ve decided to bless the world with yet another podcast! Join me as I explore some of the ideas, big and small, that have been percolating in my brain at this particular time in life. Through personal anecdotes and conversations with close family and friends, each episode explores a theme (I know, how original) - creativity, aging parents, parental legacies, aging us, parenting, identity, etc. - that I’ve been thinking about in my existential quandaries. Ooh, is the word “existential” a total turn on? Then welcome! You’ve come to the right place! I hope you enjoy!

This episode is dedicated to my mom, the person who inspired me to want to be creative. Truth be told, I produced this piece a few years ago, shortly after my mom passed away. It was my way of working through the staggering grief I felt in her absence. It was honestly, therapeutic. I felt my mom's presence, her voice humming in my ears as I edited. But more than that, her words took on a deeper meaning and helped me connect to my own creative process and voice. Whoa! All this to say, I needed to make this piece for me, more than anything else. Once I finished it, I knew that this would have to be the first episode of this podcast. It is a tribute to my mom who was indeed a complicated woman. But correct me if I'm wrong. Aren't we all a little complicated?

Send me a voice note if this episode spoke to you in any way or reminded you of stories of your own.
