Welcome back to Hair Harmony, the podcast where we celebrate the artistry, culture, and community impact of hair. I’m your host, Destiney La'Chay—your certified loctician, community leader, and carpal tunnel advocate, coming to you from beautiful Nashville, Tennessee!

Hair Harmony is more than a podcast—it’s a movement of empowerment, creativity, and connection. Today, we're diving into some powerful topics about hair and culture. So, grab your favorite hair product, get comfy, and let's vibe together!

The Cultural Impact of Hair

Today, we’re talking about something close to my heart—the cultural impact of hair. For many of us, our hairstyles are ( a tongue twister 😂) a reflection of who we are, where we come from, and the legacies we carry. Hair is history, identity, and a source of power.

Growing up as a multiracial woman—Black, White, and Hispanic—hair was a way for me to connect with different parts of my identity. Whether embracing my natural texture or trying new styles, it’s always been about expressing who I am. What’s your hair story? How has your heritage or background shaped the way you wear your hair? I’d love to hear from you, so be sure to tag #HairHarmony on social media & leave us a note , (we appreciate all feedback)

Hair as a Creative Expression

Let’s talk about hair as a form of creativity. Whether you’re rocking protective styles, locs, braids, or a fresh fade, hair is an art form. We sculpt, shape, and TRANSFORM not just how we look, but how we FEEL

( Self Care is Needed) GO GET YOUR HAIR DONE !!

I always tell my clients that when they step out of my chair, they should feel confident and powerful. It's not just about styling; it's about self-expression. That’s what keeps me passionate in this business—the ability to help people step into their BEST selves!!!

Balancing It All: The Mompreneur Journey

<itunes:title>Balancing It All: The Mompreneur Journey</itunes:title>

Hey, everyone! Welcome back to another episode of Hair Harmony, where we talk all things hair, community, and life behind the chair. I'm your host, Destiney La'Chay, certified loctician, , community leader, and proud mompreneur. Today’s episode is all about balancing it all – being a mom, running a business, and giving back to the community. I know so many of you can relate to the hustle, so let’s dive into how I manage this crazy but rewarding life.

The Daily Hustle

Being a mompreneur is no joke! Every day brings new challenges, but also new joys. From getting my kids ready for school to meeting clients, managing my loctician business, and even planning kids' hair classes – it’s a lot to juggle. But honestly, the key for me has been prioritizing and creating systems. My mornings are for my kids, but once they’re off to school, I switch into business mode. One of my biggest joys is running my own business and still being present for my children – it's what drives me

Building a Business & a Legacy

My passion for hair care goes far beyond styling. It’s about leaving a legacy. Teaching kids about hair through my classes is a part of that legacy, as well as sending hair care products all over the world through my nonprofit. I want young people to feel empowered and know that they can build their skills, no matter where they come from. For me, it’s more than just business. It’s about making an impact. I want to be remembered for helping others and uplifting my community.

Overcoming Challenges

Of course, the journey hasn’t always been smooth. Balancing work and family is hard, especially when you’re dealing with personal challenges..I’ve been open about my struggle with carpal tunnel. Theres been so many days I where I can’t even hold my tools without pain. But Ive been pushing through, and here I am today – still doing what I love. Just at my own pace ..If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that resilience is key. Whether you're a mompreneur or chasing a dream, you’ve got to stay persistent and take care of your health, too.

Giving Back: Scholarships & Sponsorships

Another thing I’m incredibly proud of is giving back to the next generation. Right now, I’m working on scholarship packages and sponsorship opportunities for kids who want to pursue their passions. Whether they’re interested in hair, business, or just need that extra push – I want to be there to support them. If you’re a business looking to sponsor or donate, please reach out! We need all hands on deck to make this vision happen.

So, to all the mompreneurs out there, or anyone trying to balance family, business, and passion – you’re not alone. It’s tough, but it’s worth it. Keep pushing, keep balancing, and know that you're building a legacy for yourself and your family. Thank you so much for tuning into this episode of Hair Harmony! I appreciate all the love and support. Be sure to follow my journey on YouTube and stay tuned for more episodes. Until next time, take care and keep harmonizing life and business!

And that’s a wrap for today’s episode! Don’t forget to check out my nonprofit, where we send hair products around the world and support scholarships for young creatives. If you loved this episode, share it with a friend, subscribe, and leave a review. Stay tuned for the next episode, and as always, keep chasing your dreams!

Ig @beautybylachay_, @musiccitylocs

Tik tok Destiney lachay , MusicCityLocs

Subscribe on YouTube @musiccitylocs , @destineylachay

<itunes:title>Carpal Tunnel Awareness Month: Empowering Change and Raising Awareness-October </itunes:title>

As we step into Carpal Tunnel Awareness Month, it’s a powerful reminder of the importance of taking care of our hands and wrists. For those of us who rely on our hands for our careers, hobbies, or even daily tasks, carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) can feel like a sudden, unwelcome hurdle. But this month isn’t just about discussing the pain and the challenges—it’s about empowerment, education, and fostering understanding.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when there’s pressure on the median nerve, which runs through a narrow passageway in the wrist known as the carpal tunnel. When this nerve is compressed, it can cause numbness, tingling, weakness, or pain in the hand and arm. Over time you will begin to lose strength as well.

Though often associated with repetitive hand motions, such as brushing your teeth, typing ,using a computer, CTS can impact anyone, from hairstylists and musicians to factory workers and athletes & more!!!

My Journey with Carpal Tunnel

As a carpal tunnel Fighter and advocate, this month holds a Special place in my heart. When I was diagnosed, I didn’t realize how much it would impact my life and my career as a loctician. Simple tasks like holding tools, styling hair, or even carrying out day-to-day activities became challenging.

Raising Awareness: Why It Matters

Carpal Tunnel Awareness Month is about more than just recognizing a medical condition—it’s about highlighting solutions, advocating for early detection, and ensuring that people know they don’t have to live in pain.

• Early Detection: Recognizing the signs and symptoms of CTS early on can lead to effective management. If you notice tingling, numbness, or discomfort in your hand or wrist, it’s time to talk to a doctor.

• Treatment Options: From wrist braces and physical therapy to surgical options..It’s essential to explore what works best for you with a healthcare professional.

• Workplace Awareness: For those of us in careers where repetitive hand movements are common, advocating for ergonomic workstations or breaks to stretch and rest our hands can prevent long-term issues.

My Mission as a Carpal Tunnel Advocate

Throughout my career, I’ve made it a point to bring awareness to carpal tunnel syndrome, especially in industries where handwork is essential. As a certified loctician, hairstylist, and community leader, I encourage others to pay attention to their bodies, invest in prevention strategies, and speak up if they’re experiencing symptoms.

This month, I’ll be sharing more resources, personal insights, and tips for those dealing with carpal tunnel, along with stories of resilience from other survivors. Let’s use this time to spread knowledge, support one another, and work toward solutions that allow us to thrive without pain.

Join the Movement

Together, we can make a difference. Whether you’re a CTS survivor, know someone who is, or are just learning about this condition, there’s power in spreading awareness. This Carpal Tunnel Awareness Month, let’s take the steps toward healthier, pain-free living—one hand at a time.

Stay tuned for more resources and tips throughout the month!

Destiney La’Chay

Certified Loctician | Carpal Tunnel Advocate | Community Leader
