Here's the one thing you should implement in your podcast if you’re feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start and that is…making sure that your episode titles are 60 characters or less. Getting into this habit will be super helpful for you as you are starting your podcast. Like Brittany said during our conversation, it helps your ideal listener know what the episode is going to be about (because the title doesn’t get cut off with an ellipsis). And whenever you interview someone make sure to use their name in the title as well, so that when people are searching for that person, your episode comes up! (Okay, I know that was two things, but they were two small things, so hopefully that’s okay.)

Here is the one thing you should implement in your podcast if you're feeling overwhelmed and you're not sure where to start, and that is having a seasonal format. That break is not only so that you can rest, which is very, very important, but it's also to give your brain a break from putting out content so that you can refill your creative cup so that you're ready to put out your best content again for the next season. If you don't have that break, eventually you're probably gonna run out of ideas, which is kind of the worst thing that can happen for a podcaster. So you need to take those breaks so that you have time to recharge and give your brain a break from trying to think of new ideas so that when you do come back, the ideas are just gonna flow. I can promise you that because that's what happened to me when I finally took my first break. I came back with so much energy and excitement around my podcast and. You deserve to have that energy and excitement around your podcast too, not just when you first start your podcast, but every season after that

Take it from someone that is still working on remembering this. Download numbers are just information, they in no way reflect if you are an awesome person or not, they just tell you if the things that you tried during that launch worked or not.

Here's the one thing you should implement in your podcast if you’re feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start. And that is editing. You need to edit out more than you think you should. And I’m not talking about getting rid of all of the ums and the pauses, I honestly think you should keep some of those in, because that helps the conversation sound more natural. What I’m talking about is getting rid of anything that isn’t moving the conversation forward. My chat with Jamie had so many fun moments in it that I had to cut, because they weren’t applicable and they were slowing down the energy, but I had to be brutal in my editing to make the best possible episode. So be brutal with your editing. Your listeners will thank you and then tell their friends about your awesome show.

Podcasting is such an amazing tool for us to amplify our voices and serve our communities (and by us I mean women with kids who are still at home). Sharing The ALS Journey to Inspire and Educate, Diagnosed Dad

May is ALS Awareness Month. If you aren't sure what ALS is, it's a disease that attacks cells in the body that control movement. It's a neurodegenerative disease, meaning cells of the nervous system die over time during someone's ALS journey.

It's an absolutely devastating disease with no cure. My brother, Ryan passed away from ALS a year ago next month, and I'm determined to help bring more awareness to this awful disease so that we can find better treatments and a cure.

Today, I'm excited to introduce you to a podcast that is hosted by James Smith, who shares his ALS Journey. His show used to be called Beyond MND so you will hear him refer to it by that name. It is now called, Diagnosed Dad. Everyone can learn something and be inspired by his ALS Journey.

An Outstanding Organization Doing Impactful Work, I AM ALS

For the month of May, which is ALS Awareness Month, I'm dedicating all of the Friendly Podcast Guide episodes to helping raise awareness of ALS and the amazing people in this community such as the I AM ALS organization.

Almost a year ago, my brother passed away from complications with ALS. Before Ryan was diagnosed, I had a vague knowledge of what ALS is, but that was it. I didn't know that there is no cure and no treatments that are able to prolong the life of someone with ALS.

Now, I am intimately aware of this disease and I want to be part of the movement that is helping the ALS community thrive and eventually find a cure. I AM ALS is an organization on the forefront of that mission.

Navigating Grief with these Four Useful Podcasts

If you're new to the podcast, or maybe you just missed when I've talked about this, my brother-in-law recently passed away from ALS which is also called Lou Gehrig's Disease. It's a rare neurological disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. To say that it's been difficult is an understatement. Finding a new normal has been incredibly humbling and challenging.

In honor of National Grief Awareness Day, which is tomorrow, I decided to do an episode about different podcasts about grief that may be helpful for other people who are also trying to figure out life navigating grief.

Barbara Brown Taylor asks and answers this question in her memoir, Leaving Church.

I really like the idea of focusing on the things that are making my life better, it helps me to see those things easier in my every day life. And as a stay at home mom of 3 littles 5 years old and younger in the winter where it’s too cold for my kids to easily go outside, I need all the help I can get. I hope that you can find a nugget of info that can help you with your life, but more than anything I hope that listening to my list of 10 things can inspire you to make your own list of things that are saving your life right now.
