In this episode, I critically analyse the ethical responsibilities associated with using digital technology in early years education from my perspective as a Deputy Manager in a UK Montessori setting. Drawing on module readings, including Hobbs (2017) and Hård and Jamison (2005), I explore some key issues such as student privacy, child safeguarding, digital citizenship, and equitable access to resources. I argue that it requires ethical awareness, critical engagement, and leadership responsibility to ensure that technology supports inclusion, dignity, and human development.

In this episode, I reflect on how my understanding of digital literacy has developed through this module. Speaking from my role as a Deputy Manager in a UK Montessori early years setting, I speak on the ethical responsibilities involved in using technology in the classroom, including student privacy, child safeguarding, digital citizenship, and equitable access to resources. Drawing on authors such as Hobbs, Hård and Jamison, Polsky, and Freire, I consider how historical and contemporary debates about technology have reshaped my thinking. I argue that digital literacy is not only about technical competence, but about critical awareness, ethical leadership, and protecting children’s dignity in digital spaces.
