Dicing with Diversity is a Documentary Podcast exploring the question ‘Why are Tabletop gaming spaces so diverse? It explores the good and the bad that come with this colourful community, all set with a background of audio design, music and actual play.

The artefact I am presenting is an 18-minute-long audio documentary. This is both a podcast and a sound design piece, showcasing my skills in both areas and featuring musical elements. They show how I have improved musically over this time frame, and my skills in Pro Tools, podcasting and sound design for future employers. I wanted to emphasise ease of listening and maintain focus, so I settled on 18 minutes because it was a succinct, clear way to present the information.

My aim for Dicing with Diversity was to create a piece of media accessible to a wide range of audiences who may not be interested in Dungeons & Dragons. I settled on a BBC 4-type audience of older adults.

Within this, I conducted research into Pro Tools and how professionals use it. Pro Tools is advanced editing software used in the mainstream audio editing and tracklaying industry, so it was a large undertaking to teach myself some Pro Tools skills. Most of it, apart from the sound design, was done in Pro Tools. This helps me as an employable individual, as I will know Pro Tools when entering the working world. I applied the tracklaying techniques I saw used on my placement within my sound design.

I aimed to create a key project to stand out in my portfolio and show I am developing Pro Tools skills and my sound design strengths.
