Mary Shard is the only immigration lawyer for miles. Every morning she takes the elevator up to a rural asylum court presided over by an animatronic judge with a 10:30 tee-time, opposite a permanently-bored opposing counsel named Nipples McGee. Then one day a former client comes back to thank her — she won her own case overnight, with an AI tool that did the job in an afternoon.

Cuts Both Ways is a 40-minute audio drama. A farce about asylum, automation, and what happens to the human in the room when the machines start doing the job slightly better than the humans we've stretched too thin.

From Scapegoat Studios, in association with Oh No Theatre.

Adapted from the original stage play by Dalton Scott.

Premiering summer 2026.

Mary Shard built her career fighting for people the system wants to disappear. Now she's got an edge: an AI that never sleeps, never misses a precedent, never lets a client's story slip through the cracks. It's the best asset she's ever had — until it starts winning cases she's not sure should be won.

When the machine that's supposed to serve justice starts deciding what justice means, an immigration lawyer discovers that the sharpest tool in the room cuts in every direction.

A new audio drama about the people we fight for, the systems we trust, and the cost of letting something else do the thinking.
