Foundational opening monologue (draft):

The North Star episode—the one that explains why this show exists...

The sea raised me.

Not gently. Not safely. But honestly.

Long before I understood the word “stewardship,” I learned what it meant to be accountable—to weather, to crew, to gear, to life that could be taken and life that had to be respected.

Stewardship for the Sea isn’t about saving something fragile. The ocean doesn’t need us to save it.

This is about saving ourselves from forgetting how to live in right relationship with something larger than us.

For a season of my life, the sea trusted me with her work. And that trust shaped the man I became.

This podcast is for anyone who’s felt that call—whether from a deck, a shoreline, or a memory they can’t shake.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

The Spine of the Show (before any scripts)

At its core, this podcast lives at the intersection of:

The sea as teacher — it doesn’t negotiate, it doesn’t care about excuses, it rewards respect and punishes arrogance.

Stewardship over ownership — you don’t own the ocean; you’re allowed to work within it for a time.

Becoming — boy → deckhand → man → father → elder-in-training.

Memory and lineage — what was handed to you, what you protected, what you pass on.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Core episode pillars:

You’ll always have something to say if the show is built on pillars instead of trends.

1. The Sea as Authority

Stories where the ocean corrected you. Mistakes. Close calls. Lessons that stuck.

2. Work Worth Respect

Commercial fishing. Seamanship. The dignity of hard, dangerous labor done well.

3. Stewardship vs Exploitation

Not politics—ethics. When harvesting is honorable. When it crosses a line.

4. Rites of Passage

Moments where boys became men. Moments where men realized they weren’t finished.

5. Legacy

Holding my daughter. Thinking about what kind of world—and ocean—she inherits.
