Meet Cam – The Man Behind Cam’s Corner

If there’s one thing Cam loves more than a strong cup of coffee and a freshly sharpened pencil, it’s asking one simple question:

“But what really caused it?”

Cam is Safety Wise’s resident ICAM investigation expert and the voice behind Cam’s Corner. Safety Wise has been operating since 2002, and Cam has been part of that journey for many years, helping organisations move beyond blame and into real organisational learning.

Over the past two decades, Cam has seen the evolution of workplace investigations firsthand — from the days when incident reports often stopped at “human error,” to today’s deeper focus on systems, controls, and organisational influences. He’s passionate about helping organisations understand that incidents rarely have a single cause, and that meaningful learning only happens when we look at the bigger picture.

Throughout his career, Cam has investigated serious workplace incidents, facilitated ICAM investigations across multiple industries, and trained thousands of leaders, supervisors, and safety professionals in the ICAM methodology. His ability to turn complex incidents into clear, practical learning has made him a trusted guide for organisations wanting to strengthen their systems and prevent repeat events.

Cam has a knack for translating complex causal mapping into language that makes sense everywhere — from boardrooms to toolbox talks. He’s the one who asks the awkward-but-important questions, spots the missing barriers others overlook, and gently challenges the old habit of blaming individuals for systemic problems.

On Cam’s Corner, Cam shares lessons from real investigations, common mistakes organisations make when applying ICAM, and practical insights for building stronger systems. His goal is simple: help organisations move beyond surface-level explanations and focus on the deeper factors that truly influence safety.

Because at the end of the day, Cam isn’t interested in who’s to blame.

He’s interested in what we can learn.
