In this episode, we break down the latest statistics and hard truths: 2023 saw a record 36,318 sexual assault cases reported nationwide—an 11% jump from the previous year and the highest rate in over three decades. Most victims are women and girls, with 41% aged just 10–17, and the majority of assaults happen at home, often by someone the victim knows. Indigenous Australians and young people are at greatest risk, and family and domestic violence is a key driver in up to 41% of cases in some states. Despite rising awareness and reporting, the vast majority of assaults still go unreported, and conviction rates remain low.
