The Beyond Zero team embarked on an inspiring journey through the Free State and Eastern Cape provinces, visiting key locations such as Bethlehem, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, and Mthatha. These visits focused on adolescent and young people (AYP) Safe Spaces, as well as men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender sub-recipients, where we captured raw and authentic stories from these communities. These vibrant and dynamic environments served as the perfect backdrop for recording our thought-provoking upcoming podcasts, which will cover three key themes:

Human Rights and Advocacy: We engaged in deep conversations with key and priority populations, including young people, transgender individuals, and MSM, to explore their challenges and triumphs in advocating for their rights and dignity. The resilience and determination of these communities are a powerful testament to the importance of continued advocacy.

Transgender and MSM Experiences: Through the Me 1st and Unmute Me programmes, we discussed the unique experiences of transgender individuals and MSM. These conversations aim to promote understanding, acceptance, and the dismantling of stereotypes, fostering a more inclusive society.

The Power of Safe Spaces: Under the Say It, Let’s Talk programme for AYP, we highlighted the significance of Safe Spaces in providing not just support, but also essential resources and a sense of belonging for young people in marginalised communities. These spaces play an important role in promoting mental well-being and resilience.

Our conversations went beyond surface-level discussions, as we unpacked topics such as human rights, safe sex practices, the benefits of psychosocial support, and the barriers and enablers to healthcare service uptake. We also addressed pervasive issues like stigma, discrimination, post-violence support, and human rights violations.

The podcast series will feature 13 episodes, each dedicated to amplifying the voices of marginalised communities, particularly young people, MSM, and transgender individuals. Our goal is to spark dialogue, inspire action, and advocate for more inclusive and supportive environments for these key and priority populations.

Don’t miss out on these powerful stories! Follow, like, and subscribe to the Beyond Zero YouTube channel for our upcoming podcasts. You’ll hear raw, unfiltered conversations, gain insights into the lives of AYP, TG, and MSM community members, and be inspired to advocate for human rights.
