Councils across New Zealand are facing serious challenges in being able to fund renewals, maintenance and growth of the infrastructure and services they provide. Most councils collect property rates (taxes), which are based on the total (capital) value of the property. Common Ground Aotearoa are seeking to change this and have rates based on the land value. In this podcast, we discuss the benefits of this approach, challenges to implementation and trade-offs against the existing approach
