My best friend Ricky came out at the ripe age of 23. He found himself obsessed with making up for lost time. When he told me of his plan to move to West Hollywood, I was speechless. Not because of his sexuality, but knowing what it was so horribly he chased. Three weeks later, I received a late-night phone call, and as reverently as I knew he could answer, I asked him, "So, how do you like LA?"

I dedicate this radio documentary I made back in 2010 to my best friend, Ricky. May you rest in peace. Your brave and honest voice shall echo through the ages.

"So, how do you like LA?"

"Well, um, hmm. That's a really funny question because I'm f**king homeless."
