<itunes:title>SEALED since 1986 - Sale of the Century</itunes:title>

In this episode of A Copy of Our Home Game!, we open a sealed copy of the 1986 Sale of the Century electronic home game, complete with its mysterious little Quizzard devices. After the first unboxing, we take a look at the components, figure out how the game is supposed to work, set everything up, and then play by our own House Rules — because the official game expects at least three players, and there are only two of us. So we each play two rounds, compare our final cash and merchandise totals, and see who comes closest to becoming the Sale of the Century champion. Along the way, we discover a few quirks: a board that gets a little off-kilter and wobbly once the Quizzards are inserted, prize cards with some surprising duplicates — including multiple carpeting and bedroom set prizes — and plenty of 1980s game show home game weirdness. We also had a lot of fun with the questions, which led to cutaways and references ranging from Monty Python to King of the Hill, The Simpsons, AAAHH!!! Real Monsters, and more. Was it elegant? Not always. Was it very 1986? Absolutely. Did we have fun? You bet your Instant Bargain we did. #GameShows #gameshow #gameshowhistory #saleofthecentury #JimPerry #80snostalgia #quizzes

<itunes:title>Is this the ultimate Wipeout game show fan creation?</itunes:title>

Tyler is stepping up to the board — but will he clear it, or will he WIPEOUT? In this episode of A Copy of Our Home Game!, we play a fan-made, Flash-based video game adaptation of the classic 1988–89 game show Wipeout, created by a fellow game show fan, @GameShowMachine , who sells his homebrew games on Etsy. This version includes a board generator, allowing players to create custom categories by entering the correct answers and Wipeouts, then copying the generated code into each game folder. Since Wipeout is built for three contestants, Chase takes on hosting duties while also “playing” the other two players — with just enough playful coaching, selective strategy, and shameless cheating to help Tyler experience every round of the game. This episode’s custom categories are mostly TV-themed: “Brilliant… But Canceled” - Which short-lived series were featured in Trio’s classic programming block? “Did Duffy Do It?” - Which TV shows featured Patrick Duffy as a guest star or regular cast member? No Dallas or Step by Step allowed! “Treasure Island Chapters” - A literary detour through the chapter titles of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure novel. "Bart Simpson’s Prank Calls” - Which fake names did Bart give Moe over the phone? And finally, Tyler faces the bonus round: “Current EastEnders Businesses”- Can he identify which pun-heavy Albert Square businesses are currently open for trade? Play along at home, keep track of your own Wipeouts, and see whether Tyler can survive the board! And if you're interested in hosting your own version of Wipeout or dozens more classic game shows, visit Travis' shop at https://www.etsy.com/shop/GameShowStudio #Wipeout #PeterTomarken #GameShows #HomeGame #ClassicGameShows #RetroGaming #EastEnders #TheSimpsons #PatrickDuffy #TreasureIsland #ACopyOfOurHomeGame

<itunes:title>TV Scrabble: Why This 80s Game Show Failed as a Board Game</itunes:title>

Welcome to the first full episode of A Copy of Our Home Game! — our series celebrating the board games, video games and electronic games based on classic TV game shows. This time, we’re opening up "TV Scrabble," based on the 1980s game show hosted by Chuck Woolery. We start with a look back at the history of the show, then play one full game using the home game’s original instructions. After that, we each take a turn playing under our own House Rules, designed to stay as close as possible to the television version — complete with graphics and sound effects inspired by the show. Along the way, we run into some very 1980s game-show/home-game moments: one of the first words we play has aged… badly, folded game sheets create an unexpected gameplay issue, and we discover just how tricky it can be to bring a TV studio format into the living room. Can a boxed home game capture the feel of the TV show? And do our House Rules make it better? Play along with us and find out. In this episode: - A brief history of TV Scrabble - One full game using the original home game rules - Two full solo games using our TV-style House Rules - Graphics and sound effects inspired by the original show Subscribe for more episodes of A Copy of Our Home Game!, where we play through game show home games from our collection and see how well they bring the TV experience home. #TVScrabble #Scrabble #GameShows #BoardGames #HomeGame #ChuckWoolery #RetroGameShows #GameShowHistory #ACopyOfOurHomeGame #VintageBoardGames

In our latest episode, we crack open a sealed 1986 copy of the #HollywoodSquares board game issued early in the run of the '80s syndicated edition starring #JohnDavidson. Our main gripe (and there are many) is that the celebrities in the Squares are parodies of real celebrities - thinly-veiled references to John McEnroe, Joan Rivers, and others. Despite the shortcomings, we did have a fun time playing a best two-out-of-three match, with Tyler bringing out his Arnold Schwarzenegger impression that threatens to bring down the house.
